Louisville Eastern 43 Whitefield Academy 0

I have coached many AAU games where the team we were playing was very underclassed. Realistically we may have been able to win some of them 50-0. You will never convince me that in a game with teams mismatched by so much you can not control the score. Here are some pointers for teams that find themselves in such a situation.

1) Take only one base at a time (i.e. runner on first only goes to second even if ball is hit to fence)

2) Do not steal or advance on past balls

3) Ask your batters to swing at any reasonable pitch. No they should not strike out on purpuse but should swing at anything within reach.

4) Bring in a pitcher that has little or no experience and give him a chance to feel the thrill of being on the mound.

There are other classy things that can be done, but I am hard pressed to think anyone could win by 43 runs and be making a reasonable attempt to control the score.

1st time they scored more than 12 runs all year....43 is just too much.

I feel for Eastern... I am sure they did things honorable... and I would bet that they tried there best to sit all players that could not have gotten anything out of this game...It would hurt any good team to be a part of a game like this...The only question is Why did they schedule them?...Ive seen bad teams play a bad game and its not fun for anyone,,,especially the winning team because no matter what they do it is always with an asterisk...WA should try to schedule teams that are more like them...There are about a half dozen or so not too far away from them.

One other way to hold down the score is the t-ball rule. The defender only has to hold the ball over his head and all runners must stop

I have heard that Eastern's coach still had base runners advancing on wild pitches when they were up by 20. If that's the case then the coach has no class. Let your young players play and let them swing the bat but after a 10 run lead (15 at most) all base hits advance the runners 1 base, no bunts, steals or advances on WP. Defensively your kids still play but you are definately using a young pitcher and he throws nothing but fast balls.

Why did Eastern schedule this game. THere is nothing to be gained by playing someone that inferior.

In a game like that you reach for every strike you can and every out but the mercy rule is 10 runs after 5 innings.

I'm sure Eastern's principal will handle this.

Another case of the private vs. public advantage.

Have never seen 43-0 on scoreboard, but with that said I have seen local team beat a team from Madison Co. 29-0 and did not play a starter in the game. Team they played never completed a play in infield. How do you stop a team with out telling your kids to strike out if they can't catch a fly ball or complete a ground out?

Yes, you're right. Whitefield has clearly scheduled some opponents that are out of their league. To be more specific, either Whitefield's COACH or AD made some questionable scheduling decisions. However, I would suggest that some of these "big boys" have made equally poor scheduling choices by lining up games against an opponent they know (or strongly suspect) they will crush.

What it truly important here, however, is that the Whitefield PLAYERS did not deserve this. They did not schedule the game. They were handed their schedule, told when and where to show up, and do the best they could. I'm sure they did and clearly their best fell far short of meaningfully competing in this game (and several others). Blame whomever you want for scheduling this game, but the Whitefield PLAYERS did not deserve to be humiliated in this fashion. Period. At the end of the day, baseball is a GAME and these are just young men trying to have some fun, and did not need to be embarrassed and brutally reminded that they are nowhere near the talent level of the "big boys."

Very well spoken! I agree 100 per cent.

Another case of the private vs. public advantage.

This has nothing to do with private vs public issue. If they truely scored 43 runs, then they should feel embarrassed. I hope every team goes after them fully loaded in the district. There is no reason, I mean no reason why you score that many runs in a baseball game. Principal should step an take action on the head score. If not, the parents should step up and do something because this is an embarrassment to them as well. Anton leaves and the Eastern program goes down..

There needs to be a 20 run mercy rule after the 2nd inning.

There needs to be a 15 run mercy rule after the 3rd inning.

Once we were 17 runs ahead of an opponent and there was a runner on first. I had the next two players bunt back to the pitcher: because 1) it was an easy out for the defense and 2) it didn't hurt their batting avg. due to it being a sac. I thought it was a good way to get out of bad situation but

the other coach didn't see it that way. After the game he let me have it for bunting with a 17 run lead.

Did anyone, see this game and can offer insight, as to what occurred. There are many circumstances, that could have happened.
