Who was the last average to below average D to win a title???

Kidd's career numbers are better than Nash. The last few years he is put in the right situation in a great offense with great players and all of the sudden he is a top 5 PG ever NO WAY! He didn't average more than 9 assist in ANY season before he got to the Suns.

 

So you don't take into consideration that maybe it was bad situations he was in, in the past, and that maybe now he's in his prime. As a true PG, I'd have to give it some thought. But initially I'd probably say Nash...

Nash over Isiah? I may agree with you if Nash ever does win a title. And out of all the discussion, all of us have left out the great Dennis Johnson! He was Larry Bird's PG and was overshadowed by the other superstars on those Celtics teams.

Yes, Dennis Johnson was a very good guard on the Sonics championship team and those memorable Celtic teams as well. I do stand by Nash over Thomas overall. Isiah was great too but Nash's shooting percentage, assists and free throw shooting are all better than Thomas' and no doubt that Isiah had much better teams around him, especially the championship teams that he played on.

I think Nash could be your MVP every year if you wanted to name him. I like his play, he's another John "Pastie" Stockton but a better scorer. I would rank him up there as a HOF'er.

No way they are still a really good team without him.

 

But not a top 5 team.

The Suns have to like that Dallas won't be awaiting them if they can get past the Suns. I know they might not be looking ahead, but they have to be hoping that Golden State gets beat the next round. Like someone already mentioned if GS and Phoenix meet in the West finals that will be very entertaining basketball.

1. Oscar Robertson - Triple doubles night in and night out.

2. Magic Johnson - The biggest match up problem at the point guard spot ever.

3. John Stockton - Number one in steals and assists all time, what more do you want from a point guard?

4. Bob Cousy - Ran the point for the greatest dynasty in NBA history.

5. Steve Nash - Each year in Phoniex he has gotten better, very close to averaging 20 points and 10 assists this year as well. One of the all time great free throw shooters as well.

6. Isiah Thomas - Could score and pass and tough too.

7. Jason Kidd - Great passer and rebounder but a liabilty with his shooting.

8. Tim Hardaway - Last point guard to average 20 points and 10 assists.

9. Earl "The Pearl" Monroe - Great guard on those awesome Knicks teams.

10. Maurice Cheeks - Played on the championship Trailblazer team and those great early 80's Sixer teams too.

 

I'd have to include Clyde Frazier and maybe even Tiny Archibald into the "top 10" discussion.

 

I don't watch much NBA these days; so I'm more likely to mention folks like Clyde and Tiny than Hardaway. From what I know, Nash seems to be very much in the mold of Stockton, without all the steals.

People can criticize Nash all they want. He is an amazing player who makes everyone he plays with much better. Him and Jason Kidd do that by far better than anyone in the NBA right now. Jason Kidd only has 2 players on his team anyone has ever heard of who isnt a pretty big NBA follower and he resurrected Vince Carter's career. Steve Nash has Stoudemire, Marion and a bunch of other journeymen and they are awesome.

 

My 1 big knock on Nash is defense. I think it would solidify him as a great player if he can make it to the finals this year.

 

He has to go through a team with probably 1 of the most underrated players of all time in Tim Duncan though.

On this, we agree. I do think Nash is a very good player who is making the most of a system fit to his skills perfectly. I just don't see him as one of the best PG's ever...
