Devin Harris, Jason Terry, Jerry Stackhouse, and Josh Howard have all been added since Nash left. I will give you this... I think that the 2003-04 Mavericks should've been a lot better than they were... Nash, Dirk, 'Toine, Jamison, and Finley is a pretty good group of players... They ended up finishing 3rd in their own division though... Even with a 52-30 record.
April 30, 200719 yr The Mavs tried the fun and gun style but it wasn't going to win them a title (see Phoenix now). So they let Nash go, and went with a more defensive mindset. It worked pretty well for them last year. I can't remember but who did they beat for the West title? It wasn't rocket science to see the Warriors would give them fits because of how hard they play defense and how well Nellie knows the team and Avery. In the up and down system Nash is very good for what the Suns want to do, but it will not get them a title. At some point in the playoffs a team is going to force the tempo down and the Suns will watch the window close a little more. Very good PG? No doubt. Elite in history? I just don't see it...

April 30, 200719 yr I'm not saying Nash is the best PG ever... I just don't think he should lose the MVP award because of the company it would put him with historically... As far as where I actually rank him... It's a tough call... I think I would take Mark Jackson (not as complete a player, but a great ball distributor), John Stockton, Oscar Robertson, Isiah Thomas, Magic Johnson, and Gary Payton in front of him.. Not necessarily in that order. Nash, Jason Kidd, Tim Hardaway, and Bob Cousy round out my top 10... Again, not necessarily in that order... So he's top 10.. Not top 5... Not sure where I put him between 6-10.
