32 reported killed in shooting at Virginia Tech

I think it was probably just one. That's a pattern you see in a lot of shootings like this. They'll go after family, or a specific person first, then begin their rampage.

I find it hard to believe he killed 20+ people and injured 20+ more by himself.

Why not? Wouldn't be too hard with the right weapons and the right setting.

Eay to do with enough weapons and trapped, defenseless groups of students.

True but the second attack was 2 hours after the first and the police didn't have things on lockdown after 2 hours???. I guess its possible.

Wow that video was creepy listening to the gunshots...

Spoke with someone who was in the engineering building (second shooting). He informed me that the word on campus is that the first shooting was a guy killing his girlfriend at 7:15 this morning. They locked down the building. Some kids jumped from the top floor windows to get out. Once the building was lifted from lockdown, the lone gunman got through and made his way to class (why they were having classes still two hours later, I don't know). The university didn't send an email out to students until 9:50am. Gunman entered the engineering building and started firing. This is a tragic incident and I'm not sure how the incident was prolonged by lifting the lockdown on the dorm and allowing the gunman to enter a different building. I'm sure as the events unfold throughout the afternoon we will have a clearer picture, but I'm wondering how a campus that has a shooting just 8 months ago doesn't have a better plan of action now. A lot of this falls on their shoulders.

Is the killer dead ? If not I hope Virginia has the death penalty.

They said he/she is dead. They aren't sure if he/she killed himself or not.

It would make no sense to lock down a campus after a single shooting. Single shootings happen every day. We can't look at this in hindsight and say what should have been done.

Not that I hear about at schools.

What college did you go to where single shootings on campus in dorms happen every day?

They're now reporting that the shooter killed himself. He was using two 9mm handguns.

You guys are missing the point! I'm saying, single shootings do occur somewhere every day. It's a fact of life. You're not going to send in hundreds of officers to suyrround every building on a campus just because of a single shooting. That's just not going to happen.

I had no idea this was going to be this sort of tradegy when I first posted. At that point it was 1 dead. I'm overwhelmed that an individual could shoot 43 people.

Not all the injuries were from gunshots, some were from jumping out of windows, etc........

They were indirectly from gunshots, but not everyone was shot.
