April 12, 200719 yr Darn right, guilt should make the white man roll over. However, when it is used in the right circumstances. Using it to pardon crimes or abuse is not valid at all. However, when one uses it to try to bring down a racist on National Radio/Television, and others scream, "Why not both sides?" Think for a second... How would you respond to facing daily ridicule because of the color of your skin? Knowing that you may be treated worse because you are an African American? I completely understand why JJ and AS are so quick to attack the racist white men/women who speak out with intolerance. White people have 5% of the population to attack all the minority racists.... Guilt doesn't make me roll over, because I haven't done anything. "The white man".....
April 12, 200719 yr At this point in their life, I disagree to an extent. I think they are getting to the age, that they would love to have a spot in history as MLK does. A person that made a real change instead of what you imply. I can only go by what they have done and not what they would like to be remembered as.
April 12, 200719 yr I can only go by what they have done and not what they would like to be remembered as. I agree with you as they have done. I think we might be seeing a change though as they start to consider what their place in history is. Al Sharpton made some great statements this morning. I hope he follows through. But a meeting between his group and music industry won't get much hype from the media unless Al rattles his saber loudly. THen he will get accused of doing it for the attention.
April 12, 200719 yr The last thing that Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson want is racial harmony. Racial Harmony would put an end to their lucrative positions as the self-appointed leaders/shake down artists of the black community. Racial harmony puts these 2 out of business!!!
April 12, 200719 yr Guilt doesn't make me roll over, because I haven't done anything. "The white man"..... Why should any white man be guilty? just ebcause of the color of their skin? NO WAY! I have many African-American friends who are different from me in one way, THERE SKIN COLOR. And that is the only difference. Sharpton and Jackson make me sick! People are people, whether they be black, white, native American, or asian. As soon as we all start to realize this, the world will be a better place. Its sad that a few IGNORANT people, no matter what their race may be, can cause such uproars in this country.
April 12, 200719 yr Author Al Sharpton was on with Meredith Viera this morning and called out the music industry. He talked about his group having meetings with people in the music industry. He complained about those in the decision making positions of music industry are not even African-Americans. He said that the music industry must change and start giving positive messages. That there are artists out there with positive messages but the music industry sees cheap bucks with the crap they are putting out there now and won't make any changes. Did he bother to ask for meetings with Don Imus to talk about change and giving a positive message. No, he immediatedly wanted the man fired. Again complete Hypocrisy.
April 13, 200719 yr To the Duke lacrosse players. Straight from Al's mouth. I think that there are certainly a lot of racial factors. Whether it is directly in the case, we'll see, because some reports said that there was racial language used. But I think that when you look at the racial atmosphere, when you look at the fact that there again were the allegations of racial statements, when you look at a lot of people feeling that they have been treated differently, where this girl has basically had a character charged in the media, there is a lot of racism that's in the air. Having said that, I commend a lot of the blacks and whites who stood vigil and to come together in that community to stand up for this girl. This case parallels Abner Louima, who was raped and sodomized in a bathroom like this girl has alleged she was. That's the case and just like in the Louima case, you have people here saying she fabricated it. They said he fabricated it — two guys in jail right now for that. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,192277,00.html
April 13, 200719 yr If Imus gets a Satellite radio gig, maybe he'll invite Rev. Sharpton on his show to apologize over and over.
April 13, 200719 yr This is exactly my sentiment. I can't stand Al Sharpton, he does more to create racial disharmony than to prevent it.
April 13, 200719 yr We were discussing the Imus situation in my Business Ethics class today, and I brought up this exact point about Sharpton. It was quickly shot down of course as the situations being completely different...God, I hate how liberal colleges are.
April 13, 200719 yr Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have no room to say anything about unethical things spoken by anyone on the airwaves or in public. They have their own history on such subjects, and could make several apologies to different groups themselves over things they have said over the years. I truely believe these two simply love the publicity that they're getting.
April 13, 200719 yr Author I'll expect to see Rev Sharpton leading the boycott and picketing the premier of Halle Berry's new project. Nappily Ever After
April 13, 200719 yr I'll expect to see Rev Sharpton leading the boycott and picketing the premier of Halle Berry's new project. Nappily Ever After Actually Napilly Ever After is appropriately named. The book tells the story of the trials of a black woman and what she must do to be accepted both within her own race and with others. One of the first things she does is gets rid of her long, chemically straightened hair and lets it go "nappy".
