justme2018 Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Wins a Title in the first year? Let me say I don't think it will happen but.........:sssh: Will they say " He won with Tubby's players!"
rockcastleraiders Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 I would be the first to say it, just to be a butt-hole!
ColonelCrazy Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 The difference is Tubby inherited a team 2 years removed from winning the national championship and a team that was upset in the national title the year before. Billy G. is inheriting a team with plenty of holes to fill.
Kentucky1 Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Well it doesnt sound like there is going to be to many of tubby's players left. I've heard that jasper, porter and stevenson are transfering and we already lost morris to the pros. I do not know how true this is but I have heard this. another things though, If Billy does win with these kids then he is doing something that tubby couldnt do. When tubby won with ricks recruits rick had already proven he could win with them. I really dont see him coming in an winning right away though.
LudlowBushmat Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Tubby's advice to the new Kentucky coach: His best line came when asked about what advice he'd give to the next Kentucky coach: "Don't win too many, too soon." http://www.startribune.com/512/story/1089187.html
LSURock Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Given the present circumstances, if Billy wins an NCAA title next year they may rename the arena after him.

I have not seen a quote from Porter.
mobaar Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Wins a Title in the first year? Let me say I don't think it will happen but.........:sssh: Will they say " He won with Tubby's players!" As the other guys have said, no. If Tubby had been to the title game the last two years, shoot, even 1 final four, you might get that argument. However, winning a title with a team that got bounced in the 2nd round and lost its best player to the NBA doesn't really compare to what Tubby inherited.
Pancake Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 I am curious to see how Billy does under pressure for the first time in his career.
bellalumni40 Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Jasper and Stevenson have said they are staying. I have not seen a quote from Porter. Both will definitely stay. I would say that there is a chance of Porter leaving. He was another one that came pretty much just b/c of Tubby. FWIW, he will probably never play many minutes under Gillispie. It may be the best thing for him if he leaves.
MountainThunder Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 The difference is Tubby inherited a team 2 years removed from winning the national championship and a team that was upset in the national title the year before. Billy G. is inheriting a team with plenty of holes to fill. He did not inherit the same team. Guys graduate and move on. Gillispie didn't inherit the exact same team as well, .. guys graduate and move on. I didn't like the argument that Tubby's UK title was 'Ricks guys', they were Tubbys guys. I don't like the argument that these are Tubby's guys, they are Billys.
owsleyking Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 A coach who inherits the cupboard loaded has nowhere to got but down...unless he reloads. The cupboard isn't bare right now,but there are enough holes there to consider this a rebuiding project..however, the recruits are out there..Billy G just has to work hard to get them..and with the right recruits, this could be a SHORT rebuiding project. We just have to be patient and see.
Augger Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 The best thing that Tubby has done for Billy G., is staying until Bobby Perry And Sheray Thomas graduated.
cch5432 Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Wins a Title in the first year? Let me say I don't think it will happen but.........:sssh: Will they say " He won with Tubby's players!" With these players, if he wins it, he will be heralded throughout the land.
Wireman Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Wins a Title in the first year? Let me say I don't think it will happen but.........:sssh: Will they say " He won with Tubby's players!" Then I'll go help destroy downtown Lexington during the celebration :dancingpa
