Arthritis is treatable but not curable and I don't see people pulling out of political races for this.

 

The point was, I have read nowhere where it said Mrs. Edwards had a short time left on this Earth and that she would die before John Edwards would be elected president or die before he completed one term or two.

 

You'll have to come up with something a little better than Arthritis to compare with this situation.

I really think of us have any business judging a husband and wife for their choices on how they react to one of them facing a battle with cancer. To hold it against him that he and his wife made the choice to stay in it is petty and low.

 

He reached a new low when he decided to stay in the election instead of spending time with his dying wife.

 

This post reached a new low when you judged him without even knowing him personally or his wife. Real classy.

 

I don't agree with John Edwards on a lot of issues. I am a Democrat and am not ashamed of that fact, but I am not an Edwars supporter. Having said that though I think we have sunk low enough as a human race and farout of the Grace of God when we start judging people based on a choice he and his wife made. If they, as a married couple, chose for him to remain in the race while she battled cancer than I am no place to think lesser of him or her for that.

Elizabeth Edwards has Stage IV Mestatic Breast Cancer. From what she's described, the cancer has most likely entered her bones, especially in her right rib cage. But life expectancy is extremely variable with mestatic breast cancer. Even with it in her bones, she could easily go on to live another 10 years. Only when the cancer enters other organs, espceically the lungs, does her time become short.

 

While I would never cast a vote for John Edwards, I think John and Elizabeth have made the right decision in as Andy Dufresne said, "Get busy living, or get busy dying."

Any way you slice it Edwards was using his wifes condition as an avenue to get a list of potential donors and that's very low in my book.

I think that Newt set the "what to do in the face of my wife's cancer" bar years ago, and it hasn't been approached since then.

 

If the donor list was a conscious decision by Edwards, I deplore it. If it was, as suggested, an "automated" decision that was soon corrected; I fail to see the big problem.

My mom has the exact same cancer as Mrs. Edwards...her doctor has said that she "could" live out her normal life...or "could not"....that sounds a lot worse than you or I, wouldn't you say? With that, if my dad were in Edwards' shoes...my mom would kick his butt if he tried to duck out because of a little thing like cancer :thumb:
