Has John Edwards hit a new low?

Featured Replies

New York Post Article

According to this article members of John Edwards' campaign staff have confirmed that people who have sent e-mail notes of well wishes and prayers to Edwards and his wife regarding the return of her cancer have been automatically added to a database of e-mail addresses that are then used to solicit funds.

A check of the website does show that people sending such notes are now asked if they wish to recieve more e-mails but one has to wonder how many were sent that didn't get this option.

When Edwards first had the news conference regarding his wifes illness some said that he was trying to garner a sympathy vote and I thought that was pretty insensative. Now it appears that is exactly what he was trying to do. If not why was this section on the campaign website at all?

I'm not an Edwards fan but I don't think you can put this on him. All that online stuff is so automated that I could see where it would slip thru the cracks. Once caught it was corrected. No big deal.

I disagree. First, Edwards leads the campaign everything they do falls on him. Second, it is a completely separate page of the website set up for a very non-political reason. I'm not naive enough to believe that his people didn't know exactly what they were doing and if by some very slim chance they did falling through the cracks is not a acceptable excuse.

He reached a new low when he decided to stay in the election instead of spending time with his dying wife.

She's dying??? Is she aware of this diagnosis??

We're all dying my friend, its just a matter of time. Here is what he had to say, so you tell me what this means:

John Edwards said tests this week had shown his wife, Elizabeth, had cancer in a rib on her right side. He said the cancer is treatable but not curable.

So yes, this cancer is going to eventually get the best of her.

Great retort Wireman, you really put the muzzle on Fletch.

Blah blah blah

Arthritis is treatable but not curable and I don't see people pulling out of political races for this.

The point was, I have read nowhere where it said Mrs. Edwards had a short time left on this Earth and that she would die before John Edwards would be elected president or die before he completed one term or two.

Considering the fact that arthritis isn't deadly, unlike cancer, I would say having incurable cancer would be a death warrant. Especially considering this is her second bout with it. I will reserve my opinion on Edwards and his wife, I don't have all the facts and I have never been in his situation, but I don't see his wife living to a ripe old age.

Not the same thing. Not even close.

:thumb: I don't know how someone would even begin to think these two things are the same thing.

hmm, if I were Mrs. Edwards, and my husband had worked for years laying a foundation to run for President of the USA or just president/CEO of business/company, I would insist that he continue on the same said path. When faced with adversity, the strong continue. Perhaps they are continuing as normal as possible for the sake of their children. It would be my dream, if I were her, to live long enough to see my husband reach his goals. (and living in the White House for any length of time would be a great incentive.)

You know, there might be a difference between living and surviving. Perhaps the time has passed, but it used to be that some people became politicians because they had a passion about making a better town, state, or country. Maybe Mrs. Edwards doesn't want to just survive, but live whatever time she had left supporting her husband toward a grand goal.

Of course, I tend to be a dreamer and not a realist...or so I have been told.
