Ryan Ball and Michael Eaton (srs 2b) will be in the mix

Thanks. Highlands should be very competitive. If Simpson can get them to play at his level and find another consistent scorer, Highlands could be top 5 IMO.

Word has it that Greg McGraw may in fact return to the hardwood in the fall/winter which along with Drew Simons would give the Birds 3 potential scorers.

I hope this news becomes a reality and true. If so it will definitely give them the 1-2 punch they sorely missed. Simons with a competetive summer playing for the JAZZ in tournaments all over the country will need to step it up his SR. year and avg. double figures. Eaton and Ball will definitely be in the mix as well. Stein will anchor the middle, Hurtt is a great defender and will provide the scrap for loose balls, steals, etc.

Other underclassman who may vie for time are Grubbs, Grote.

...if Simpson would play with the others INTENSITY, especially on the defensive end, the team will REALLY be in the mix!!

I agree.

Here's my only problem with Simpson. He is good but at times plays selfishly and tries to do everything himself. Against CCh in the regional semis there were many times where he could have slowed it down and found a wide open team mate but instead shot an off balance 3. He and bluebirds won't be able to beat the top teams like Holmes and CCH next year if he does that

Who exactly would you run a play for on that team other than Nic?

I don't know what CCHS has coming back, but I would never count out a team coached by Listerman.

Truthfully I think it comes down to Highlands and CCH. CCH was Junior dominated this season and has to be the favorite IMO. Very experience club. Highlands has a superstar in Nic Simpson and a good player coming back from injury in McGraw. Everyone else for Highlands is just very strong defensively.

COV CATH

Grimes-Top 3 or 4 player in the region next year

Bondick-great ball handler and good shooter

Noll-lengthy, must get better with back to the basket

Maile-one of the top 3 sophmores in the area, busted out in the regionals

Shmerge-the kid can flat out shoot the 3

Roll-defense is great, good shooter, and good ballhandler

Do you just go around to different threads praising Listerman?

CCH will be a contender for the next few years due in large part to the incredible amount of talent in the next 2 classes, at least.

Nic as a decoy...backside screen...bounce pass for Simon's...layup cutting to the basket. C'mon, seriously...it's high school ball. Any coach can design 3-4 plays to get good shots for any capable player outside of the stuff designed for the stud.

I believe the young Birds found out when Nic was out with injury that they, indeed, can compete with any NKY team without him. This was the confidence boost needed to propel them to the run for the "Final Four" when Nic did return. Willie needs to quit feeding into the "Nic do it all" theory and when he gets out of control offensively and passive defensively...sit him...adjust his attitude...and turn him loose again on the court. Nic generally did this when tired from "doing it all". A little rest would go along way to having him fresh down the stretch in games. JMO.

I heard from a reliable source that McGraw is finished with basketball.

IMO: It comes down to CovCath and Holmes again.

CovCath had a outstanding junior class with Bondick, Grimes, Roll, Noll and throw in super soph Maile.

Holmes has Henderson, Nelson, Avery, and Clark. Plus, the other kids who stepped in due to the suspensions.

Boone and Highlands will be 3 and 4.

I heard from a reliable source that McGraw is finished with basketball.

I wish all the sources and words heard would just go away. He is a great kid and will succeed in life whether he plays basketball or not.
