9th Region outlook for 07-08

IMO: It comes down to CovCath and Holmes again.

CovCath had a outstanding junior class with Bondick, Grimes, Roll, Noll and throw in super soph Maile.

Holmes has Henderson, Nelson, Avery, and Clark. Plus, the other kids who stepped in due to the suspensions.

Boone and Highlands will be 3 and 4.

Sounds about right no me. I think HC could make a case as well returning Sorrell, Giwa and Eifert. They won't win the 35th but they will be competitive.

Everyone has talked about their teams strengths and who they have coming back, but what are some of their weaknesses that they need to work on in order to win it all?

Holmes- Plain and simple, they need to find scorers. Nelson and Henderson will be the two main targets next year, but other than that nobody really scored much for the Dawgs other than Avery and Clark here and there adn that was in back up roles.

Eifert is currently a senior.

Eifert is currently a senior.

My bad. I didn't think it sounded right when I typed it. :D

Alright folks I know it's early, but what do you all think? The 9th region will be hit hard this year with graduation of some great players (Hill, Rice, Jeffersom, Bovard, Jacobs, Lenhoff, bray, Ryan, etc) and I don't think the 9th region will see a team of Holmes caliber of this year for a while but who will be the early favorites and why?

In no particular order here's what I think...

CCH- lose a lot of talent in Bovard and Jacobs, but seem to always reload. Noll and Lampl will both have to develop a ton over the summer if they want to be a serious contender.

Holmes- return key players in Avery, Clark, Nelson, and by the way 9th region tourney MVP, Arrez Henderson along with a talented JV squad led by sophomore to be Dom Johnson who is probably the next big name player to come through Holmes

Ryle- Talented freshman classes the past two years, may surprise a few teams and become a top 5 team by season's end

Highlands- return POY candidate Nic Simpson, and with him in the lineup and a decent supporting cast, Highlands may become a contender as well

Holy Cross- Giwa, Eifert, and Sorrell all 3 return so HC should be competitive.

Boone Co- were somewhat young this year but graduated bray which will hurt them.

IMO the top 3 teams next year will be Holmes, CCH, and Highlands but what do you think? I'm not too familiar with the 08 class.

Dom will be a junior.

Dom will be a junior.

I though Dom was going to be a Soph. Either way he will be a major contributor next year and probably step in as the 5th starter.

I wish all the sources and words heard would just go away. He is a great kid and will succeed in life whether he plays basketball or not.

Why are you attacking tiger, he never said he would or wouldn't succeed in life whether he plays basketball or not, he was just stating that he has a source that says he would not be playing basketball next year, nothing more, nothing less.

On McGraw, from what I understand, there might be a possibility for him to play next year. It all depends on how well therapy and the healing process goes. All I can say is that he is in my prayers either way. He is a great kid, most polite, well mannered young man you will ever meet. So Greg, just keep your chin up, you will do very well in life as long as you stay the way you are.

1A- Cov. Cath.

1B- Holmes

3- Who cares, one of these two will win it again.

Not attacking anyone. 83 hears he is playing, Tiger has sources that says hes not. Someones wrong . The kid has had a pretty tough way to go. Can't we just leave it be, and hope things work out for the young man?

Yes, but no one here is hoping that things don't work out for the young man, just reporting what they heard about his basketball status. Nothing insulting here.

Well, from what I was hearing down on Spring Break, McGraw was shooting around and throwing down some monster jams. This was from a pretty reliable source. Whether that translates into him playing games next season I have no clue but he looked healthy when I saw him down there. You put him in the backcourt with Simpson and I think you have one of the best in the 9th.

COV CATH

Loaded with great junior's coming back.

Grimes- will be tuff again, A big factor under the basket

Noll- will get stronger this summer and be a factor under the basket

Bondick- will be a biggest factor for the team, He'll be the leader on the floor.

Great shot and ball handling, unselfish player, Just a great eye for the court.

Maile is just a great player. He will be the go to guy under the basket.

Shmerge Has a great shot, He will also be getting stronger and be a factor under the basket and at the 3-pointer

Roll is a good shooter, and good ballhandler.

Shover is a good shooter, ball handler

The Cononels will have four seniors and a junior starting with plenty of talent on the bench.

More talent as a team than they had this year.

I see them winning the Region next year.

Boone will be tough in the 07-08 season... But the 08-09 season they will even be better!

07-08

PG-Mickey gabbard/Ryan Popp (both soph.)

SG-Stephen "diddy" McFarland (Jr.)

SF-Todd Krohman (Sr.)

PF-not sure on this one

C-Andy Earls (soph)

But everyone will be returning for the 08-09 season besides Krohman. And as Freshman, Gabbard and Earls got playing time in Varsity. Earls started a few games and Gabbard even hit a game winnner with 1.5 seasons left. Not sure on the team they played though.

Sounds like a bright future.

I think Sam Brown (Sr.) will see a lot of time at forward. His brother Andrew (Jr.) will see time too. Also, Bogle (Sr.) will be used as a defensive stopper at guard. Spaulding (Jr.) will see some time in the guard rotation with Popp and Gabbard. I could see Boone running a 3 or 4 guard offense since they will be deep at that spot. Flannery (So.) will see time, especially as a three point shooter with Krohman. McFarland will need to rebound, though, because other than Earls and him, Boone will hurt for size.
