Ballard led 47-40 with 7:17 to play. SC finished the game on a 16-3 run; Mackey scored 11 of them. Ballard was 0-for-9 over the final 4:56 as fatigue set in on the Bruins in a big way. Still, they fought hard all the way.

 

Congratulations to Scott Co.; Mackey simply wouldn't be denied down the stretch.

This season was amazing in a lot of ways. First, SC lost their leading scorer and rebounder before the season even started. Then to go undefeated against at least 11 top 10 teams in the state. To add to that a win against the #1 team in the nation.

 

In all reality, I thought Ballard outplayed them in every phase of the game tonight until the final 5 minutes. Every kid Hicks had except Hundley was in serious foul trouble. It seems like any minute Ballard was about to explode to an 18 or 20 point lead. Mackey put them on his back down the stretch. Playing so little in the first half due to foul trouble may have been a blessing is disguise.

While watching the game I told my wife it was Mackey time, Walls looked tired but Mackey has one of the quickest first steps I've seen. Hard to believe Ballard could be so bad from the line statistically, I believe they were 62% for the year, that's pretty poor, luckily they are good enough to get leads.

Possibly the biggest factor in the game was Mackey picking up the two quick fouls and sitting most of the first quarter. By the time crunch time hit, Ballard was a step slow from the beginning of the game, but Mackey sure wasn't.

Mackey also sat a lot in the morning game due to foul trouble. He definitely had a lot of time sitting b/c he couldnt quit reaching, so he was very fresh at the end.

Schue, how was the big celebration in G'town. In 1998 everyone gathered at the gym after they got back to Georgetown.

 

The paid attendance tonight was 18,370. I would bet about 10,000 of them were in cardinal red. The only fan base I have seen bigger was the Breckenride fan base in the 95 Sweet 16. I know Mason had some big crowds in the Fieldhouse years.

All i got to say it awesome what a great tourney wish i was there to see it. I bet i get down there next year. I cant wait until next year. Congrats to both teams and especially Scott Co. Its been a fun and exciting season in highschool basketball. As of always.

I listened on the radio and it seemed like Ballard controlled most of the game with a 5-8 point lead all the way. I was suprised to get on and see that Scott won the game. Ballard has one heck of a tough defense.

Both teams were tired and it showed in their missed shots. But Ballard had the game under control with a 7 point lead with about 7 minutes to go, and took some very ill advised shots. Why take bad shots when you have the game under control and all the pressure is on the other team?? I'm not saying they shouldn't shoot it....obviously they couldn't have stalled the ball for that long, but at least take a high percentage shot instead of jacking up 3's with defense in your face, or drives to the basket into a stingy SC defense.

 

Anyway, it was a good game, and a good tournament.

And I'm happy for Scott County... I had 2 nephews and a niece graduate from there.

The horns have just now stopped honking, but there are lots of rowdy people in my neighborhood (which borders the HS campus). Traffic made getting back home a bear -- I just had to stop at that liquor store where Georgetown Street intersects with Newtown Pike to get beer. I couldn't get back on Newtown Pike afterward, and ended up doubling all the way back to downtown to Leestown Road to New Circle to get back to I-75. Ugh.

I got to watch the game tonight. Both teams left everything they had on teh court tonight. Great Show by both teams and I really enjoyed this State Tourny

There was a pep rally at the school after the game. I think every police car in G-town was escorting the buses to the school. I couldn't be any prouder of what this team has accomplished this year. But back to the game. Ballard is a very good defensive team. They play the hardest pressure defense I have ever seen. They trap the ball every time and force bad passes and get in the passing lanes. They palyed great defense this morning against Warren Central too.

The 2 best teams in the state duked it out tonight. Scott County didnt play their best game by any means, but they pulled a tough one out. The defense for Scott Co was much better in the 4th qtr than the 3rd. It looked like some adjustments were made and they worked. Ballard only scored 5 points the entire 4th qtr.
