I would have NEVER said this before the start of the tournament, but Hill is the best player in the state. UK needs to offer this kid a scholarship, Seriously. I don't care who the coach is. It's not like Patterson and Lucas are going there now. He could be another Loften(a great player under the radar), we need to keep this kid in Kentucky. If not some school is going to have a steal in him.

 

That may be exaggerating but when he gets his touches, I can only name three or four kids who can keep up with him.

Holmes fouled 2 three point shooters and both were awarded three shots and cashed in on 5 of 6 foul shots. They cannot do that tomorrow.

Jefferson was a huge help on the boards. He rushed the boards from the guard position and used great anticipation to pick up rebounds and they were not long rebounds either. I think the box score will show close to 10 rebounds if it is accurate.

Henderson played great on defense as always, but is offensive game was well off.

I will be cheering them on tomorrow, however, I don't think Holmes has the depth to play with Scott Co.

For those of you who siad Holmes can't beat a zone, that was proven wrong today. Holmes moved the ball very well against SL's zone.

They both wanted to be the hero, and in turn costed South the game, but anyway South lost and Holmes won good luck to them tomorrow. I never said they beat the zone with their outside shooting. Jefferson would penetrate and someone would be wide open underneath from them collapsing on him. Holmes didn't need to take outside shots.

Profitt played selfishly because he was getting frustrated from henderson's defensive pressure.

 

I will say one thing though...Profitt is quick off the dribble and with that spin move, but when he has a good defender on him like Henderson, that isn't going to work. He was best today when he'd penetrate and kick it. (Which is why IMO Jefferson was the better PG today)

South did not beat themselves. Holmes' overwhelming athleticism on defense and on the boards beat South.

 

As far as Scott Co. goes, I think Holmes can beat them. Here's why:

-- Holmes will get their preferred tempo against Scott, which should lead to better offensive diversity.

 

-- Scott Co. hasn't been playing well, and I think part of that may be because of a nagging finger injury that Mackey is dealing with.

I was really expecting more out of South Laurel. Proffit forced so many shots that it cost SL the game IMO. He had zero points and at least 10-12 (bad) shots going into the 4th quarter. I still don't understand why SL settled for so many 3's and other bad shots......they start 6'4", 6'5", 6'6", 6'8" but have zero inside game.

 

As for Hill from Holmes, this kid will be a steal for somebody as long as he has the grades.

I think another reason SC has not looked very impressive offensively is because they have been subing so much trying to steal minutes of rest for their starters and foul trouble. In the opener the starters played less than 21 min. Today most of the starters played about 24 min, except Mackey only played 14.

This is the second game in a row people have said the opposing team Holmes played took bad shots and looked sloppy. HMMM...maybe it has something to do with good defense. Atleast 2 people can agree on that.

They didn't go inside because Holmes front court did such a good job forcing them to take outside shots by denying the post men the ball.

South Laurel had some issues with shot selection in both games, particularly Hammonds and Proffitt. It seemed like they were both making sure they got their shots.

Rice is very good at finding an open spot in the zone. Sometimes it was in the middle, but most of the time he snuck in behind the defense - 22 would penetrate and dump it down to Rice.

The few times SL threw it into the post they scored. Their kids seemed to want to play outside - instead of posting up and using their height.

Henderson was in Profitt's jock - plain and simple.
