The whole "right now" part makes it sound like he's living in this moment and not speculating on the future. Could have just been a poor choice of words, or reading too deep into it...

He turned down an extension after last years run, because he said it wouldn't be right for him to cash in with his stars all turning down the league to come back for another year. He's up for a big inflation of his paycheck, regardless of anything.
