...all kidding aside, I think this is a great move for both the university and Coach Smith. His defense-first style of play will put him in a position to be more than competetive in every single conference game. As GT pointed out, the Big 10 is a conference where you can make strides into the top half of the conference with relative ease.

 

The Gophers will, at the very least, make the NIT field next season and could very well find themselves dancing if the cards come up right.

A veteran PG, PF and C that are decent and a bunch of role players. They have a dead eye shooter committed for next year and I get the feeling he'll stay. The didn't lose anyone to graduation from this season and have mostly role players behind the top 3. The good news is you don't need to score much to win in the Big 11 and he should be able to get them to at least the middle of the pack...

Minnesota makes a run at the big 10 title and get a good seed in the tournament. No real expectations there and if he manages to win 20 games a year, the fans will be ecstatic.

 

I'm sure the alumni and fans would have no problem going 22-10 every year.

Tubby will be very successful there.

Winning record and will probably contiue his personal NCAA appearance streak. If those folks though Haskins was something they might rename the State after Tubby is done there, he will win and win often. The Big 10/11 is soft and getting softer, Tubby already has them surrounded and they don't even realize it yet.

I believe Tubby is a perfect fit for Minnesota. A place where he can be appreciated and mediocrity is accepted.

Yeah they will start to slide with the players he recruits by going to elite 8's and losing in double overtimes...

I don't think they'll slide. He can attract the players he attracted to Kentucky, which were 3 and 4 star players. That will in turn produce a likely 20 win season, based off of the non-conference schedule.

And how much of a step down would that be? I believe we have been on the verge of that the past two seasons, and had it not been for the name on the front of the uniform, I firmly believe that would have been a reality this season. At least the next coach will only have one way to go and that being up where as Tubby took over a team that was a downslide from the first year to the last.
