Elliott Co. outrebounded Russell 36-22.

These Elliott County kids won our invitational tournament at Owsley County in 2005, and most of them were 8th graders then. I knew this group was going to be special.

Not to much running in this game. Without Vanhoose Russell had no answer for Elliott Co's relentless pressure. Turnovers and POOR rebounding were Russell's downfall. Elliott Co just beat them to the ball all game long. Great effort.

Could this be Coach Mays and the Lions year? Would be great to see a true Class "A" school in the Big Dance!

Elliot County wanted this game more than Russell did today. The reboundng stat tells it all, congratulations to the "baby faced assassins"

This Russell team will have a lot of canna, coulda, woulda, shoulda, but in the end it just wasn't meant to be. Great bunch of kids!:thumb:

Hopefully he can get well before Monday and can bring his A game on offense.

Congrats to Elliott County on a great effort, and a well deserved win. You are the most consistently hustling team in the region and it paid off. Good Luck on Monday! Also congrats to Russell on an awesome year. You seniors have been fun to watch the past years. But all good things come to an end. I would of just liked to have seen this team end on all cylinders.

Unfortunately, Russell lost the region in the Raceland district game. Very disappointing to anyone wanting to see the region's best advance to Rupp Arena.

 

I guess you're saying Elliott would have no chance if Vanhoose had played?

Well, here are my thoughts.

 

- I felt like Elliott would win by about 15 and they won by 16

- Elliott would have won by 30 if they would've hit free throws, layups, and a few open 3's

- Russell played hard, but the better team won today

- I'm suprised that Elliott outrebounded Russell by so many - considering the size difference

- Elliott is just playing good basketball right now and the big court is a big advantage for the Lions.

Oh yeah, one final thought - even though I'm a fan of Elliott, I want Vanhoose to know my family is praying for him and we wish him the best in college.

Congratulations to Elliott Co. I'll be the first to state the obvious. Russell really missed VanHoose's ball handling and scoring ability against Elliott Co's aggressive defense.

 

Give Elliott Co all the credit. The young Lions simply out hustled Russell today. Every rebound, every lose ball and every big shot went to Elliott.

 

Russell's seniors had a great run that ended with some bad luck. No Vanhoose, Blair's Ankle and Gill's mono. A bad game does not dull what has been a great career by all the seniors.

 

Again congratulations to Elliott Co. IMO the team that will win the region championship.

I contribute Russells defeat to a long arm in their face all night. As to bad luck Ferguson has had the flu all week according to a friend of the family, so there was adversity on both teams. Don't try to use that as an excuse. Yes Elliott did out hustle Russell they ran them into the hardwood. Elliott overcame the rough housing that Russell always gives them and the Refs lets them get by with and still came out a winner.:banana: Go Lions!!!!!!!:banana: :sleep: :ylsuper: :jump:
