For the record I did give Elliott Co all of the Credit.

Both teams played good defense therefore neither team shot well.

Elliott Co plays as aggressive and physical on defense as anyone.

As I said before Elliott Co just outhustled Russell. That was the ballgame.

 

I think Elliott Co will go on to win the region.

As I predicted, Russell 2 and done. Russell had no chance without the services of Jon Vanhoose. Good game, teams played hard but anytime you lose your leading scorer and senior leadership it is hard to win. Good effort by the Red Devils. Good luck to Elliott Co in the finals.

Could this be Coach Mays and the Lions year? Would be great to see a true Class "A" school in the Big Dance!

:thumb: I agree, I usually pull for the Tomcats when Raceland is not involved but I would ove to see a small class A school make it to Rupp. The Sandy hook / Elliot Co. communitie lives, loves, eats and sleeps basketball much like the people at Raceland do football.

Now it's Russell 2 Elliott 1 that mattered!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I noticed at one point in the game, the Russell student section was chanting something when Elliott was shooting a free throw. It appeared as if Russell's coach shouted something very angrily at the student section. Did anyone else notice this? Anyone know what that was about?

 

Also, Russell's student section was pretty rude in interrupting Elliott's cheerleaders one time.

This kind of thing happens in practically every game anywhere I believe, imo it is kids being kids.

How long has Blair's ankle been bothering him? How long has Gill been playing with mono? Has these factors been going on for awhile?

Unfortunately, Russell lost the region in the Raceland district game. Very disappointing to anyone wanting to see the region's best advance to Rupp Arena.

Nice dig ScooterBob. Some of us think the team that is playing the best in the region may advance. The same was said last year when Russell dropped in a big 27 points at Rupp. VanHoose would certainly have made a difference in the score, but I don't think the result would have changed. Russell has had a great season and should be proud, but they really came up empty in the semi-final game.

If scooterbob was referring to the team with the best record against region teams then he is correct in mentioning Russell. They did defeat Elliott and everyone they played against in the region, lost only to Boyd and I think they may have beat them later on, could be wrong. But a healthy Russell team with all players present is, in my opinion and many others, the best the 16th region has to offer.

Good to see Wireman back and in good form. He can be very proud of his Elliott County team.

I contribute Russells defeat to a long arm in their face all night. As to bad luck Ferguson has had the flu all week according to a friend of the family, so there was adversity on both teams. Don't try to use that as an excuse. Yes Elliott did out hustle Russell they ran them into the hardwood. Elliott overcame the rough housing that Russell always gives them and the Refs lets them get by with and still came out a winner.:banana: Go Lions!!!!!!!:banana: :sleep: :ylsuper: :jump:

I didn't have time this morning so let me respond to this now. Elliotts arms are still not as long as Russell's but their hearts were much bigger.

 

Losing the best player in the region to an ACL, your PG playing on a badly sprained ankle, and your best athlete still recovering from mono does qualify as bad luck. Not an excuse just a fact. Elliott has had some bad luck as well that they overcame and won the game. They get all of the credit.

 

Now the only part of this I have a problem with is the "Elliott overcame the rough housing that Russell always gives them and the Refs lets them get by with and still came out a winner." comment. I love how Elliott Co's kids play but Elliott Co is the last team that needs to whine about officials letting physical play dictate the game. Elliott slaps and reaches more than any team in the region. Nothing wrong with it. Just very agressive pressure defense. If the game is called tight it would not be in the Lions favor.

I know you werent making an excuse FBALL, cause I know that Blair has a badly sprained ankle and that Gill was very ill, but just for the recored Timmy Knipp is also playing on a sprained ankle and everyone knows the sistutation with Ferguson. Elliott has been a little beaten up this week as well.

I heard the maynard kid had the stomach virus, true or not , saw he didn't play much Sat.

I thought everyone said the other night when Gill dunked three times how he was over the effects of mono. I think his lack of offensive production had quite a bit to do with the great job defensively that Ferguson did. Gill is a good athlete. Ferguson just kept him of the the offensive glass and did not allow the runouts for dunks that occured in the game with Bath County.
