First I want to make clear that I am not a TBer. I am just playing devils advocate.

 

Second, you can't add up the past five year's wins and come up with a trend. You have to take each year and look at the direction of the program. Like I said before, think of it as a graph. In what direction is the program going. If thought of in those terms the trend goes in UF/Billy D's favor, not UK/Tubby. Yes most of that trend is based on the last 2 years but with a couple more solid recruits next year at UK isn't looking much better.

 

Actually, we could be back on an upward trend if we beat Georgia...we lost 13 last year, and a win tonight would assure us of a maximum of 12 losses this year...

Exactly. Unfortunately, UK program now has a lot of fans who don't mind losing. And, they shoot the messenger when they are reminded of the facts.

 

Sounds like alot of facts being presented in this thread are being ignored and only the ones being negative toward Tubby are being considered..Now, I'm not saying that the arguments either way are right or wrong, because, as you know, these things can be spinned in any direction and usually are, but, simply looking at the negative aspects is not the way either...Noone is shooting the messenger, just making equally valid points in the other direction...

I disagree. Lon Krueger built the program. (Final Four in 94, good run) The foundation was there for Billy D to do what he did, and take nothing away from him for that.

So take away those 2 championships and the 2 in the 3 year run of the 40's and that leaves 3 national championships in about 50 years. That works out to be a national championship every 17 years. We are in the midst of one of those runs. Seems like pretty close to normal for the UK program.

BRB, you need to remember I am on record of saying that it is time for Tubby to move on as it was for Huggins. The atmosphere among fans is so poor, whether deservedly or not, is irrelevant, that it would be best for all.

 

MY point is that UK fans think some coach is going to come in here and all will be hunky dory and that won't happen. UK fans will be upset with the NEXT coach too. Billy D goes through another 5 year stretch of first weekend flameouts and they will want his head on a platter too. And yet, that is what his record indicates and UK fans think that would be great to get that coach in here.

 

6 years of close to double digit losses and first round flameouts and then win one title is better than 4 years of double digit losses and 4 advancements past the first round including two Elite 8 appearances.

 

My point is that Tubby's and Billy D's success at coaching, Tubby's is better. And yet, the UK faithful would choose Billy D as their replacement.

 

If you are going to chalk up his national title to the mantra of IT WAS HIS PLAYERS, than you also have to chalk up the TWO FIRST ROUND EXITS (Tubby has none.) and the 3 2ND ROUND EXITS up to the players that he recruited. His players that HE RECRUITED have had SUCCES AND FAILURE.

 

Tubby's players that HE RECRUITED have had SUCCESS (two Elite 8 appearances) and FAILURE.

 

 

I wish people understood that UK has had great championshi runs, and not continued championship sucess. 4 out of the 7 titles in a 6 year period(two different 3 year periods)

I'll take Billy anytime. He lost a lot last year at this time too, and you seen what happened.

Maybe the UK administration can get a sample of Adolph Rupps DNA and clone him. Then everyone will be happy.

He lost to LSU without Glenn Davis and for all intent and purposes was blown out and we have learned through the UK threads that this is unacceptable.

 

He lost to UT at UT and Florida was for all intent and purposes blown out in that game. And we have learned that is not acceptable in the UK threads.

 

They lost to Vandy in a game they were for all intent and purposes beaten soundly. And we have learned that is not acceptable in the UK threads.

 

And all of this as what should be a #1 team in the nation.

 

Billy with all parts returning from a national championship team was not able to run the gamut and have an undefeated SEC season. Something that Tubby was ABLE to do. Since he cannot match Tubby's success with what is considered by so many of the UK faithful as a better recruiting job than Tubby has ever done, he must not be as good of a coach as Tubby.

 

So based upon the grumblings of the UK faithful, Billy D should not be considered a candidate if Tubby was to leave.:sssh:

He went to THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA and built a National Championship type program! That's like somebody coming to KY and winning it all in football!!!!

He already brings in the top recruits! Give him the KY name to recruit with and imagine the guys he brings in!!!! I guess we could just live with watching Orbzuit, Thomas etc if that's your style. More power too you, I'll go watch the paint dry next door.

I'd rather lose with the top athletes in the country then watch a bunch of middle of the road players that don't play up to that potential!

THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT YOU ARE COMPARING FLORIDA'S BASKETBALL PROGRAM WITH KY! IF THAT DOESN'T OPEN PEOPLE'S EYES THEN I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO TELL THEM. THE DAY THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA IS COMPARING THEIR FOOTBALL PROGRAM TO KY'S IS THE DAY THAT GAINSVILLE IMPLODES AND I PARTY LIKE A ROCKSTAR!!!!!!!!

While 2 is technically multiple, it is not generally described as multiple. BTW, Billy D has been to 2 Final Fours and 1 Sweet 16 in 12 years. Tubby has been to 1 Final Four, 3 Elite 8's and several Sweet 16's. Their results are similar.

 

Would you trade the two Final fours and 1 Sweet 16 appearance in 12 years for Tubby's 1 Final Four, 3 Elite 8's and 2 other Sweet 16 appearances in the same time span?

 

Would you trade Billy D's ONLY 3 2nd week appearances in the past 12 years for Tubby's 6 (THAT IS DOUBLE BILLY D's SUCCESS). ONE out of 4 years Billy D's teams make it to the 2nd week of the tournament. EVERY OTHER YEAR Tubby's teams have made it to the 2nd week of the tournament.
