Lets switch gears. What about the coach of the year? I thought it would be either Jones or Duvall. Did Holland slip in there on us? 31st District good showing for this award..

 

The 8th region coaches have always voted a little funny in my opinion. With all the success my Cards had in the 8th - I don't believe Coach Hicks was ever 8th region coach of the year. I might be wrong, but I think that even the year he was coach of the year in the state - he wasn't in the region.

Owen co. coach didnt win I would say because of transfers. Henry Co. has come from 3-25 2 years ago to 18-9 and 1st in their district. They didnt get any transfers during Hollands 3 years at HC either. He is a great coach and I believe that is why he won it. Jones is an excellent coach as well, couldve won it just as easily. 31st district, i believe, is a little stronger than ppl anticipated it to be.

 

First off this was Duvalls first year as a head coach. Also Owen county won 21 games in the last 2 years combined and did it this year with little returning starters and a new coach. And I believe, not for sure, but Henry co point guard, j. williams i think, came to Henry co his sophomore year from louisville. I could be wrong though. Not sure how the award was not presented to either jones or Duvall.

Owen's star might a been a transfer, but actually he transfered back to Owen. He was in the program before, not at varsity level

Hester is an awesome player, but Neeley should've won. He turned a team around that would've won 7-10 games maybe IMO, to 21-5 and Owen having one of their best seasons in a while. Nobody in this region impacted their team like Neeley did. Congrats to all players though. Overall, I think the list is pretty good.

Owen County's schedule is awfully weak. What was there best win? S.Oldham or Gallatin? By the way, how many times did they play Gallatin this year? 4 or 5? You give them SK's schedule and youre looking at more of a 13-13 team than a 21-5. JMO

I'm sure Neely, Hurd and Hester were all in the discussion, fact of the matter is the coaches of the 8th region picked Mike Hester, and that's pretty impressive since SK only played WV (2), Grant, WTown, Oldham and Shelby. Congrats to all, just because Neely didn't win doesn't mean he's not a fine player, hope he guided his Rebels to the 8th region tournament for a matchup head to head with Hester.

:thumb: Excellent post! It is impressive that he won, considering, as you say, that SK has not had much of an 8th region schedule. On the other hand, he may have benefitted from the Gallatin-Owen rivalry.

Coach of the year is voted on by the coaches as well, maybe it is because Henry beat Owen and Gallatin, while lost at Gallatin on a shot at the buzzer the other time, if not for transfers Henry sweeps them both. This week will be interesting at the SHOE, should be great games and atmosphere. Congrats to all the players who made the all region team, and good luck to all.

It's a shame to see what size can do. I think there are a lot of players in NKY that with a few more inches would be getting DI considerations.

Going to a school like Georgetown or a good D-2 school is about as close as you can get to D-1.

Hurd i dont think is athletic enough. The kids a very good basketball player but he is 6ft 8in and I have never seen this kid dunk a basketball in a game. I know that sounds pretty petty but seriously think about it. I also think Josh doesnt dominate as he should as often. He's had a great year but he's had some games where he really didnt show up against kids 4 or 5 inches shorter than him. ( Cov Cath )

 

Rice of Holmes is a tough call because I dont know what position he would play even if he was a few inches taller. He doesnt have the ball skills to play guard and with just a few more inches only making him 6ft 6in or so wouldnt be big enough to play down low.

He can dunk easily, but it isn't Steiner's preference that he doesn't do it. He just doesn't. The thing he really lacks is enough athletic ability to play D1.
