Is Drinking Alcohol A Sin

I am sure that there is a twelve step program somewhere. Do we need a sponsor?

Will you be my sponsor?

I don't really think my take on it is necessarily correct, but I think you shouldn't let it controll or define who you are. You shouldn't drink too much to the point when you may be called upon to make rational decisions you couldn't. Not saying I always uphold that, but it's my feelings..

I was reckless for a couple years, but I've come to the point that yeh I like to have a good time, and get a lil tipsy, but if something serious was to happen. I don't want to be the guy saying what if I'd been more sober(responsable)....

Some will argue your body is you're temple, which to an extent I agree with, but osme of those same people fill themselve's with caffeine, sugars, and no excercise. I myself excercise 4-6 times a week, and am looking to increase that if I can afford a knee brace. I think the big thing with alcohol is not letting it stop you from being, or make you the person who you are. Same with cigs or anything for that matter. If you can't go for X amount of time without it, then yes it's an issue...

Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner. I had stopped posting on the subject, but kept reading. I think this is one of the major points. People are talking about different countries, and different cultures, in different countries and cultures alcohol is seen very differently. And could not be seen as sin, it is like waking up in the morning and the sun going down at night.

Sin, is what you make of it. If you put anything above God, you are sinning. We are all sinners, we all are addicted to something, weather it be tobacco, food, BGP, or alcohol. I think many people are quick to point to alcohol as an addiction problem, but the same people, would never consider over eating and being overweight as being on the same scale as alcoholism. The other aforementioned countries, see the overweight Americans as sinners of overindulgence, and many people in the US see drinking of alcohol as a sin, who is correct?

The Bible says that if a man knows in his heart that he should not do something and he still does it, it is sin. So while I may be convicted not to consume alcohol, my friend may not be. So if I consume it despite feeling that I should not, I would be sinning. My friend would not because he has not been convicted and he may be in a totally different situation than me.

My problem is that people have the attitude that I am going to do what I want to do and if someone has a problem with it, it is not MY problem, it is their problem. I see this attitude too much in our teens, especially girls. Their attitudes about clothing is that they should wear what they want even if the tight, revealing clothes make the hormones rage in the young men.

We should be more concerned with how our actions affect others. And maybe I am more aware of this as I am around students a lot and some of the students have no good parental figures in their life and they look to me as the only parental figure. So while I hold myself to a higher standard because of my profession, I don't expect Joe Businessman to do the same as his sphere of influence is totally different.

One of the easiest questions to answer....NO....if Jesus can turn water into wine at a wedding...I can enjoy a cold 'Steve'

For example, if I am a teacher and one of my students sees me in a restaurant ordering alcoholic drinks or in the grocery store buying a case of beer, what am I saying to that young person? We do not have alcohol in our house, nor do we consume it. We quite often have students over and the last thing I want them to see when they open my refrigerator is a case of beer.

I appreciate your reasoning....but you are adults, they are not.

Another thing...I feel that if you serve in the military and are under 21 you should be able to drink legally...if you can die for this country...I'll buy you a drink.

On the other hand, countries with much more liberal drinking laws, where teenagers have the legal ability to buy alcohol, don't have the "teenage drinking problem" we have here.

Another thing that contributes to teen drinking problems in this state is dry counties. Bootleggers don't card.

Welcome to Danville! Well we are moist now! Restaurants

can serve now with some restrictions. You are allowed to go to a Restaurant and drink but you are not allowed here to go to the store and buy alcohol and drink in the privacy of your own home!

Also people drink more when they have to travel 30+ miles to buy alcohol.

Why is it that some christians feel that alcohol is a sin,but the All you can eat buffet is a gift from God? There are some people that will tell you that you will go to hell for drinking a few beers when they eat like there is no tomorrow. If a preacher preaches on the sins of alcohol then he should also preach on the sins of over eating.;)

Kind of hard to do when the preacher weighs 350 pounds and has a piece of fried chicken in his mouth. :D

Now that is some good stuff.

I am sorry, you all have your opinions and I have mine. I just dont see Jesus popping the top off from a BudWiser and saying let me tell you about Heaven and Eternal life. The Bible plainly teaches for Believers to be seperate and come out from among the sin in the world. For without Holiness no man shall see the Lord. We simply cannot pick and choose what we want to from the Bible, selective obedience is NO obedience in God's eyes. As I stated earlier in one of my posts that there were 3 different types of wine, back in Biblical times.
