The Beechwood Tigers have rolled to running clock wins in their first two games of the year, both games at home. This week the Tigers travel to Independence to face the Simon Kenton Pioneers, game time 7:00 pm. These two teams have been fairly regular opponents meeting for the 12th time in the last 25 years. Beechwood has won 9 of the last 11 meetings and the last 6 in a row. Simon Kenton's last victory over Beechwood was a 22-14 win in 2017.

Beechwood has opened both of their first two games with kickoff returns for TD's. In game 1 it was Nathan Pabst. Last week versus Dixie Heights it was Tyler Fryman with a highlight reel return for a score. Beechwood has fantastic skilled players but the offense has been running game focused so far this season. It has been traditional football. Pound opponents on the ground, control the clock and suffocating defense. Beechwood has outscored their larger school opponents 83-3 in their first two games.

The Simon Kenton Pioneers started the season with two wins in their first two games also, but they took one on the chin last week, losing 42-7 to the highly rated Covington Catholic Colonels. There is a common opponent - both the Tigers and the Pioneers have victories over Dixie Heights. Beechwood won 41-3 and Simon Kenton won 42-13. Those results make this game look like a pretty even match up.

How do the Pioneers get the win and end Beechwood's 6 game wining a streak in this series?

It was 45-6 Beechwood last year. I don't think it will be that bad at Simon Kenton this year, but it will still be 20+.

Pioneers need to play mistake free football and get off to a quick start. It will be great to watch Fryman play. This is always one of my favorite games.

Based on BW's 1st two games, maybe SK should consider kicking the opening kickoff out of bounds? Playing D from the 35 a little better than Indian Hill and Dixie experienced.

Just looking for improvement in year 2. Got time to right the ship but that might be a stretch.

Mo can put the ball in the endzone. He was putting them inside the 5 in middle school. I don't understand why these teams that have kickers with legs continue to allow returns with the high school rules.

Beechwood has shown just about every offensive skill player can be involved in the first two games so far which is a great thing for Beechwood and the front line is getting it done to make all that happen.

It would be nice to see if the coaches let QB1 throw more passes though, seems he's limited to throwing based on how the offense is set up! Friday night will be interesting to see if the ball is in the air or not. Either way, I see Beechwood's offense doing well and again, it all starts up front with the line which will be a good test for them against Simon Kenton's tough defensive line.

Accidentally calling 3x1 stick into the boundary with a field vertical vs off coverage the first play of the game last week was certainly not inspiring.
