Owensboro appears to be a trendy week 1 pick, but while St. X's offense may still be figuring themselves out, I think the defense, especially the DL will give the OL of the Red Devils a lot of problems. That will be where the game is won. Believe the Tigers will leave Rash Stadium 1-0.

The last team to hold the Devils under 30 pts was CAL on 8/29 (wk2) of 25’ season. The best way to stop a high octane offense is to get to the QB and fast. And that’s what X does best. This is my biggest worry. South Warrens DLine is good but St. X’s is that much better… I think Coach Ganaway and staff will be prepared for it this go around. Get the ball out to your play makers early. Establish some rhythm and confidence. If O’s oline can hold just long enough to get the quick passes out to the playmakers, this game will look very different from last year. Also O has to find away to get to the QB on defense. Last yr X’s QB had time to eat and wash his hands before he passed the ball. That cannot be the case this time.

I will be very surprised if either team scores that many.

I don't trust the Tiger quarterback after the X-FD scrimmage. He is a step slow against upper echelon defenses. If O gameplans offensively away from Tutt, OR if the RT/RG can attack him, I think they will drive down the field.

X's 2nd level is very vulnerable if you get the ball past the front 7. I think Devils win by two scores, 21-7.

O has very nice tackles - young but the right tackle is 6-3 265 Freshman was an 8th grade UA all-american Asian James. I'm sure Tutt will make several plays but I think O has very good depth everywhere and a nice line. We've played X 3 times in last 7 years, 51-38, 28-14 and last year's 35-7, so it's hard to say we are going to win - guys have to prove it on the field. Until then X has to be the clear favorite. Know they only return a very small number of starters whereas O has some big-time playmakers back from last year in Ashley, G'way and Dillard. Owensboro has a very solid defense as does X. I'm guessing X will try to run more often than not against O's pass rush and speed. O will need to put them in 3rd and long on defense and play field position and churn out 1st downs on offense. Several good WR's back for O this year. I'd say a true projection would be 21-14 X - although my vote is with O, I think they can. O was lost last year, I don't think that's the case this year with a year under their belts under Ganaway.

X will win but hope Owensboro gets the W!

I would think that the X defense will do a good job of shutting Owensboro down. The thing that is hard to predict for any team in an early-season game is special teams mistakes and turnovers. Winning these two hidden facets of the game often lead to early-season wins. They are also the biggest wild cards in early season games. Having said all of that, I think X wins barring any costly turnovers or glaring special teams mistakes.
