Last night Athens McGillis stepped into the #3 spot on the list of top career scorers in the Cov Cath Basketball program. Currently at 1,982 career points. That puts him 5 points behind #2 Evan Ipsaro and 262 points behind #1 Cole VonHandorf. Cash Harney is at #19 with 1,123 career points (only counting his points at Cov Cath).

McGillis's career PPG average is 15.6 and Harney's is 12.4. Among the members of the Cov Cath 1000 Point club, the Top 10 PPG leaders are as follows:

21.1 Evan Ipsaro (94 games; 2020-2023)
19.8 Nick Ruthsatz (100 games; 2011-2014)
19.2 Roger Tieman (76 games; 1953-1956) *
17.8 CJ Fredrick (93 games; 2015-2018)
16.6 Jake Thelen (76 games; 2008-2011)
15.9 Cole VonHandorf (141 games; 2013-2017)
15.6 Athens McGillis (127 games; 2022-Present)
14.6 Mike Dacey (79 games; 1963-1966) *
14.6 Chris Cleves (76 games; 1982-1985) *
13.8 Dan Tieman (78 games; 1955-1958) *

Played prior to the introduction of the high school 3-point line in the 1987-1988 season.

What are Ryle's scoring options other than Coppola, and I think CCH can shut him down.

Smith, Davis, and Nsuti all hit double figures along with Coppola last night.  They are all capable scorers on a regular basis. Broz has had some nice games, too.

During the first game against Cov Cath, Ryle shot 44.1% with an effective field goal percentage of 55.95%. Here are their scoring totals from that game.

They still lost by 21.

Can Ryle control tempo and keep CCH from speeding them up?

Control tempo, don't turn the ball over, changing defenses to keep CCH out of rhythm.

If CCH scores 62+, they win.

I also want to admit something.  I am not a stake holder, but just a general basketball fan and may be even an aficionado. I did not think that Coach Dorning would be able to get Ryle to turn the corner. I was wrong. He has done an amazing job in just a couple of seasons. He doesn't know me and cares not what my opinion is, but I still want to say "hats off coach."

Great post, PP1. I believe that Coach Dorning has done a great job at Ryle in building a winning culture. You know that both teams will play with great intensity for 32 minutes. For the Raiders to pull the upset of the year in KY basketball, they must outshoot the Blue Colonels, avoid foul trouble, keep rebounds and turnovers even, and get a few breaks. That's a lot to ask against a truly outstanding opponent. The Raiders won't back down, and I look forward to a battle.

Lower bowl pretty full.  Nice crowd.  2-minutes to tip.

Duel violins from Highlands did a fine job with the Anthem.  Making player introductions now.

Unfortunately the CCH audio is seeming to have WiFi problems and very static. I am going to try back in a few. Sounds as if it’ll be another great broadcast by Drew Danneman if they get NKU to get working,
