February 13, 200719 yr And in the 90's, it sure seemed pretty one way or did you forget the "right wing conspiracy" that turned out to be Mrs. Clinton's husband's failure to keep his pants on. About 99% of politicians have mud on their hands from the slinging. Excellent!! :ylsuper:
February 13, 200719 yr They never complained about the loss of fans, they complained about the orcrastrated decission of the Radio Stations to stop playing their music. And the First Amendment gives those stations the right to not play their music. As I said, they lost some fans, but gained many more by crossing over from country music. They never said everyone should agree with them either, they complained about the threats they got on their lives from the crazies on the right. Those folks that don't understand free speach. I don't agree with much that Hannity or Ingram or Limbaugh have to say, but I would not support a boycot because of something they said. Boycotting Hannity is a part of the Freedom of Speech as well.
February 13, 200719 yr And the First Amendment gives those stations the right to not play their music. Boycotting Hannity is a part of the Freedom of Speech as well. True.......but to me, if a movie star or sports star ect say something stupid, I tend to shake my head and ignore it. I may comment and laugh at the idiots with my friends, but I wouldn't stop buying a product or watching them perform if I like them. If they are a politian and can affect me with their statement, that's different. If you let it go....it's gone the next day. Boycotting to me seems like punishing speach and encourages folks not to speak their minds.

Boycotting to me seems like punishing speach and encourages folks not to speak their minds. So the free speech through boycotting is not good. But speaking your mind is okay as long as it is not boycotting. Seems like a double standard. Nothing I say, verbally say, will Natalie Mains hear. NEVER. But I, and millions of others like me, who don't buy her records, well she will hear that loud and clear. Same as Rosie and the View. I used to love that show. Watched it every snow day. Haven't watched it a minute since she said that Christianity was a problem with this world. As well as any other person. Except for Howard Dean of course who has kept on doing what he feels is right no matter on how many of his comments offends people like me and leads us to not vote Democrat as long as he is considered a leader of that party.
February 13, 200719 yr Author Question, BF, is freedom of speech limited to American citizens on American soil? Or does it apply to Americans on foreign soil? Does an American lose their right to freedom of speech if they travel abroad? Another question, many "regular" Americans criticize the President and his Administration, should they also expect to incur financial losses and blows to themselves personally...whether in the form of scathing contempt or impugned reputation? They have their right to say anything anywhere...just as we have the right to call them idiots and not wish them success....while they may have claimed some succes from so called experts....financially it didn't happen, and that is fine with me.
February 14, 200719 yr :thumb: :thumb: This also goes for the Hollywood / Movie industry. For some reason they think the status of entertainer / actors gives them a right to think that everyone should agree with their views. My advice to all of them is to just shut up and act/entertain/sing or whatever it is they do. I would say that a overwhelming majority could give rats patoot less on what their views are. Really? So, how do you feel about Arnold Schwarzenegger? Did you scream with outrage when he was running for Gov.?
February 14, 200719 yr Really? So, how do you feel about Arnold Schwarzenegger? Did you scream with outrage when he was running for Gov.?I didn't scream but I did .
February 14, 200719 yr Contrary to the supposed "right wing conspiracy" of Mrs. Clinton in the 90's. Both sides do it, DD. Not just one. Someday you will see that the Dems' hands are no less guilty of such actions as the Reps' hands are. You are still just misguided in feeling the Dems are some sort of holier than holy group that would not dive to such depths. Sorry, to be the Shoeless Joe Jackson for you, but it is so. Both sides hands are covered with mud. :thumb:
February 14, 200719 yr Really? So, how do you feel about Arnold Schwarzenegger? Did you scream with outrage when he was running for Gov.? No I didn't, #1 I just wrote it off as California and they are known for idiots.I do respect the fact that at least he went into politics and ran for office and not standing on a podium blasting anything and everything that wasn't his views. As for the rest of the hollyweird crowd I couldn't care any less what they think and I would say that the great majority of the country feels the same way. I say if they want to get into politics then go into politics.

I say if they want to get into politics then go into politics. That is completely crazy to suggest that only those who run for office should be allowed to comment on political things. Why can't someone have an opinion who's not involved? That's like suggesting fans have no right to criticize the coach when the team is floundering.
February 14, 200719 yr I honestly don't care what they say, but what annoys me is their presumptuous attitude about everything they say. They are all experts on foreign policy and American politics, though their only credentials are fame from acting or music. When Don Henley was presenting the Dixie Chicks with their Grammy he looked like I did on Christmas morning when I was three. Give me a break. They can say whatever they want, and that's fine with me, but drop the smug condescension. I can think for myself, Hollywood!

February 14, 200719 yr The whole GWB presidency has been one of smug condescension by he and his underlings. But I'm guessing you don't get as insulted as I do when you hear Cheney or Rumsfeld speak … I would assume that comes with the territory of Presidency as I thought Clinton's group was full of arrogance as GW's have been with condescension. I for one have been thoroughly disappointed in GW, but unfortunately knowing what I do now know, I would have still voted for him over Kerry or Gore.
February 14, 200719 yr Of course I don't, because I don't like the Dixie Chicks I am a die hard servant of the Bush administration! No, I'm just saying that what's good for the goose is good for the gander. Do you criticize the GWB administration for its condescension?
