February 11, 200719 yr One teacher: Rick Pitino Two disciples: Billy Donovan and Tubby Smith One disciple transformed a decent program into a championship program. The other transformed a championship program into a decent program.
February 11, 200719 yr Author UK missed at least 6-10 un-contested 3's. How is that Florida's D? What about the other 9-13??
February 11, 200719 yr I hate moral victories, there is no spot between wins and loses. Moral victory? Its the University of Kentucky, there are no moral victories. They should come out expecting to win every game.
February 11, 200719 yr I'm not gonna sit here and claim a moral victory--we should have won!!!. However, what this shows is the true parity in college hoops. If Florida is head and shoulders above UNC, Wisconsin, UCLA, etc as Dickie V said, we don't look as bad as I thought. We have hung with UCLA and UF this year. If we could just come up with a killer instinct (would have been nice against UGA and USC, too) we COULD be OK. Still, the effort and focus from the foul line tonight was terribly off in my book.
February 11, 200719 yr What about the other 9-13?? If we hit maybe 3-4 of the 6-10 wide open we very well may have won this game.
February 11, 200719 yr As bad as the cats played I can't believe it was this close! I wish this had been a road game the Cats play better with there backs against the wall! NO show Bobby Perry killed us as bad as the 3 pt shooting. Hey he is not the only reason we lost this game! I am not defending Perry, but Perry didn't miss 19 threes or 9 free throws! I agree Perry needs to step up and be a leader, but 1 man didn't cost us this one!
February 11, 200719 yr Author You're wrong. The Cats blew this one. If they blew it, it was at the charity stripe, not behind the arc...You lose by three, missing almost 10 free throws, THAT'S where the problem is...
February 11, 200719 yr How does Ramel Bradley, the leading free throw shooter in the SEC, miss 5 free throws?!?!?! If UK shoots DECENTLY from the three point line they win this game going away! Randolph Morris showed how good he really is tonight though!!! Florida led this one from start to finish in as hostile of an environment as they will ever be in. I'm truly heartbroken...
February 11, 200719 yr OK, some thoughts: -Truly the #1 thing that lost this game was the three pointers. They hit 3 of 22, and 2 of those that were hit came with under 30 seconds left. I guess you can't say never since UK pretty much almost did it, but I will say you will ALMOST never win a game with shooting like that. -Bradley redeemed himself partially late, but it was like they couldn't say "#1 free throw shooter in the SEC" enough times, like they were trying to remind him that he was supposed to hit THOSE FREE THROWS HE MISSED. He's the only reason they were back in it there at the end as he was the only one that hit behind the arc, but man, those free throws would have been nice. -Crawford. Ugh. The guy doesn't have many games like that, but that was absolutely putrid. Nothing else has to be said. -Glad to see UK remembered their gameplan at the beginning of the second half by pounding it in to Morris, because it's like they forgot he was even there in the first half. Randolph got them back into the game. -It's encouraging to me that UK played Florida so close, because while not the signature win that they sought, they at least played with the Gators. And you can say that Florida played down, but you know what, UK played pretty awful for most of it as well. The fact they were in it with that three point shooting says a lot. They hit half of those and they win by double digits. UK was a lock anyway, but they're really a lock now. They need more games like this, because the games from here on out are tough. -Some may not have liked this game, but honestly, this game reenergized my passion for this team. I have most times this year not been into the game at all because I always expect them to disappoint me. I began believing again for some of the night, and I liked that.
February 11, 200719 yr Good effort by the Cats. UF is just too deep and too strong. Did I hear the announcing crew say that Corey Brewer wanted to attend UK but wasn't offered? If so, thats a bigger screw-up than not offering Lofton. IMO.
February 11, 200719 yr UK shot poorly from the line and from the 3pt line. This is what cost them the game. Give Florida the credit for alot of this but UK missed a whole lot of uncontested 3's. Maybe Tubby needs to recruit some of those slow, can't jump Kentucky boys that can shoot lights out, occasionally and play like there's no tomorrow every night.
