College Football General Discussion (Week 16)

As an ND fan, it’s disappointing but I expected it. My beef is with the committee rankings leading up to today. They had ND ahead of Miami up until today. The chairman said they thought ND was better than both BYU and Miami, and they thought BYU was better than Miami. However, after BYU’s loss yesterday, their thoughts changed and they used the head-to-head to determine who was better. If head-to-head was the deciding factor, Miami should’ve been ahead of ND in the poll the last couple weeks.

I think Miami has a real shot at still getting in. It will be must see tv tomorrow at noon. I hope ESPN will (if smart they will) not slow play the selections and get the bracket set before NFL games

This doesn't require much context. Looks like I was right about Alabama getting in.

Also, I really don't seem Alabama doing much in the playoffs. I just knew they deserved to be there over Miami and Notre Dame.

Imagine for a moment this wasn't about college football. Imagine instead this was clinical trials for a new drug or a prized astrophysicist trying to explain an anomaly deep in outer space or, heck, assembling a bookshelf you bought from IKEA. Any such endeavor requires not just a result that seems to work, but a process that can be repeated, again and again, by a completely different set of people, before anyone gives it enough credence that a majority of people -- even ones who don't understand the process at all -- believe in the work that was done and trust the results provided.

While no result will make everyone happy, the least this sport owes them is a process they can understand.

One of the biggest playoff implication games was early with Miami beating Notre Dame, which I figured was a strong probability then, which ultimately was. The committee definitely got it right with Ohio State getting the #2 seed, they and Indiana are clearly the top two. I could also see Texas Tech being tough to beat, they are playing good. In my opinion, Alabama had the most generous selection, and not. Their regular season conference record and beating Georgia once was their saving grace. It definitely overrode their loss to Florida State. I had no problem with Miami getting in over Notre Dame. And I was happy to see James Madison and Tulane get the nod. If it’s unliked, the FBS teams need to show that they belong that could have been in.

Notre Dame saying they won’t play in a bowl game.

Cry babies.

I expect more of this. NIL has changed things. It used to be that bowl games were a treat for the team and fans. The players could actually get gifts via swag bags and treated to nice things. Now, they're getting paid all year and they could care less about a meaningless bowl game.

I don't like it, but I think that's where we are.
