Facts about the LCA / Belfry Football game halftime situation last night that are not being told that should be known. I should mention that both schools are near and dear to us. LCA is taking a beating on social media today so I feel like I should say something. 

 Yes, Belfry was escorted to the soccer field bleachers. LCA was escorted behind the home side bleachers as well outside. They don’t have a locker room either. Both teams did have access to heated bathrooms. New bathrooms were installed at the soccer field and accessible. The bathrooms on the soccer field side are nice. Our crew has enjoyed them this year. 

LCA provided electric and put down boards on their track for Belfry to have their gas heaters during the game. They look like a missle on wheels with a flame at the end. It was putting out heat the whole game. Belfry had heat the whole game. Trust me we smelled the heater all night. 

The soccer pressbox housed their coaches and radio crew. There is no heat inside the pressbox. I did bring a space heater and shared it with everyone. The scoreboard is hard to see from that pressbox but because we knew what to expect we had a device that receives data plugged into the controller and we put up on a screen for the Belfry radio crew and our crew to keep up with the game clock. 

There was one situation where replay could have been used but because it is not used in HS sports it was not an option. For some reason the officials lost track of downs. We could have easily corrected that situation had that been an option. 

I think a lot of things talked about miss these facts and I wanted to take up for LCA and their athletic staff. They are good people!

How can they continue to host playoff games?  Shelter should be a bare minimum.

One would think.

So where did Belfry dress pregame? Did it have heat? The issue I have is not having an area for the visiting team to get out of the weather. If the home team doesn’t want to accommodate their own players that’s on them, but the visitors have zero control on that. If you can’t give both teams the proper accommodations then you need to not host games.

This couldn't have taken place at a Christian School !!!!!!

 

Back in the day, maybe still, Walton didn’t have running water for showers, but they had locker rooms for both teams that were heated.

Out of the 5mph wind? This is not your daddy’s “mountain tough” Belfry. I’d say if Belfry makes it back to the semifinals, they will be welcomed with heated blankets and hot cocoa.

Maybe LCA needs to spend a little money and have better facilities. I hope OCath smokes em next week at Kroger. Belfry has more class than LCA will ever have. Thug look for LCA!!!
