I think Marsh or Nelson is the way to go, know a few guys who have worked with Marsh and Nelson both respected. Scott, Taylor MIll will be fine with either, no wrong choices with either of them.

Obviously that’s not old. But he wasn’t a 20 or 30 something either, and had a couple previous jobs under his belt. My point is your first order of business is to get the right guy. Putting yourself in a box based on age, head coaching experience or any other “necessity” will limit your choices. Age should be the least of your concerns.

I think the " older " guys are having trouble finding motivation to stick around the game in a head coaching capacity. But again Scott does have that pool!

Age is just a number. Everyone keeps coming back to Scott "needing a young guy"...my point is that you need to be more worried about getting the "right guy". I wasn't implying that late 40's was old.....just that it didn't fit the mold of a 20 or 30 something guy.

I get it 1000%. 40's may be looked at as prime to some. Honestly, Perrin will no doubt ride it out at Holy Cross with this sophomore class they have. That would be in his and their best interest. The Scott job will probably be open when those kids graduate anyways and he will be more well rounded when that time comes. I think he is having a ball right now.

Looking at their roster it has 74 kids and only 11 seniors unless I can't count. It is mostly a younger team it appears. I am more curious about why we all think this is such a long road for a turnaround. I think the right guy can come in there and change the culture the first year, good weight room year and really get things rolling after the 2nd year. It might be ugly the first year, but participation doesn't seem to be the issue. Is it culture or just lack of talent being dispersed to other area schools?

Here is my take being a few years removed. Scott has great facilities, but the weight room needs a big upgrade.  Scott has multiple athletes that plays multiple sports which is fine, but it hurts when trying to put in a weight program.

I do believe they finally have the proper administrators leading the high school.  Having multiple principals led to some instability, which caused multiple families to look to other schools.

The new coaching staff has to get more involved in the youth and middle school programs.  Build relationships with families and coaches.

This is a big issue. Despite how nice the facilities are, for some reason the weight room seems to have been an afterthought. They basically just moved what they previously into a smaller space when they built the indoor facility. It's not adequate for 20 kids, let alone multiple teams. Especially in the spring, when baseball, softball, and football are all trying to use it.

Push ups, sit ups and pull ups don't get the job done anymore?

I get that it worked for Rocky against Ivan Drago.  But that was in the 80's. Many schools they are competing with have much nicer, larger weight room set ups. That's not necessarily what's holding them back, but they could certainly use an upgrade in that area.

Some might be surprised how many kids can’t do pull ups, push ups and body squats. Lots of kids and that people think of as strong can only do a small amount of pull ups. Players back muscles and to a degree the shoulder/trap area tend to be neglected.

I'm not surprised. Unfortunately I have to laugh at teenagers frequently for it. And they get exactly why I'm laughing at them.

Couldn’t agree more! I see Perrin riding it out at HC and seeing what happens with the current head coach. Perrin has done a heck of a job being the OC and the team is young. Scott has been in limbo for a while and I don’t see Perrin leaving a very good thing.
