As far as I'm concerned, Brossart is as much of a state champion as Newport Catholic's football team.

I understand your point, regarding the State Title....but two completely separate entities, govern the All "A" and KHSAA.

 

Like I mentioned before, under the auspice of the All "A" State Tournament, a winner was crowned Brossart. Football titles, fall under the KHSAA and thus, as different as Kentucky and West Virginia, although both have champions.

Kentucky is one of the few states that doesnt class basketball. For several small schools the only chance that they have for a state championship is during this tournament. It is hard for a school with a population of 300 to compete agianst teams with 300 in their senior class. The All A may not be the most noticeable state tournament but it is a state tournament.

 

This is a great tourney for the small schools. It isn't everday that a Hickory Highschool will defeat the big boys.

Good job BB you are a state champ. If anybody elses class "A" school would have won they would call themselves state champions. I know if Gallatin Co. would have won I would call tham STATE CHAMPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree 100% that the All A Classic is a "State Championship" caliber tournament but it is NOT a state championship. I am not taking away from Brossart's accomplishments, but in no way are they state champs. They are All A Classic Champs.

 

We need classified basketball in this state if we want to be fair to all the players involved. As a fan I like the Sweet 16 but one class basketball is a horrible system for most of the smaller schools in KY that have NO chance to win a title.

Sometimes you get what you wish for, then you find out the grass isn't greener on the other side. What am I talking about? Well IMO the KHSAA doesn't put on the show that the Touchstone All "A" Classic does. Yes the Sweet Sixteen is a great show, but does it include all the other events that the Classic does? I attended the KHSAA 3A State Football Championship at the Pizza Bowl but in all honestly, the atmosphere sucked. The JC vs CovCath game at JC was clearly a better event than the State Championship event as nothing and I mean nothing other than the football game was a Class event..... Now if you are willing to give up the entire package that the Classic gives to the small schools, then go ahead sell yourself short, but IMO the Touchstone All "A" Classic is a much better total event than the Sweet Sixteen.. Now please understand I am saying the WHOLE event, not just the Bball games.....

 

So be happy and proud to be the Touchstone All "A" Classic Tournament Champion.

There are many good holiday tournaments but if there is a better tournament anywhere, let me know and I'll be there. 30 games 4 days girls and boys. I did like it better when they played girl/boy/girl/boy after the second day but it is still the best value tournament that I've attended and ONE great show. Thanks Touchstone Energy.

Couldn't disagree with you more Guru. How is this not a State Championship?It is not the sanctioned KHSAA Sweet Sixteen State Tournament but it certainly is a STATE Championship Tourney. Every small school in the STATE competed in this tourney and Brossart came out on top. Again it is not THE State tourney but is A State tourney for small schools. It is recognized as such by ALL those who compete in it. They are State Champs. Would you feel differently is the Big Trains had won the thing?

On the other hand I do agree with you that the KHSAA needs a class system for basketball. They don't need to get as watered down as football has, however.

It is a Class A State Championship. Because all Class A schools are able to compete in it.

No, I wouldn't feel any different if the Big Trains won it all. And, along those lines, remember my cousin (who is the head coach at SG) was the only senior starter on the NCC team that won the All A Classic a few years back. I went to the games and cheered him and NCC on and I was as excited and proud for Tony as a relative could be but at the end of the day they were All A Classic Champs, not State Champs.

 

In the Sweet 16 that year Male revenged an earlier season loss to NCC and beat NCC in the first round. I still remember Michael Bush making Tony eat the ball. LOL

I would hope that after seventeen years of being a premiere, state-wide, spotlight tournament, participated in by roughly 119 schools annually, that the tournament would be accepted as a "State Championship" caliber tournament.

 

While the KHSAA "Sweet Sixteen" State Tournament will always be the Kentucky Derby of our sport's statewide competition, I would certainly consider the All "A" one of the jewels of the "Triple Crown" with perhaps the KOB or the 5th/3rd being the other.

 

I don't hear too many of the football folks telling NCC that their "A" State Championship was bogus, nor the Russell "Red Devils" nor the CovCath Colonels.

 

The Northern Kentucky media seemed to think that it was a pretty major event or they wouldn't have been in Richmond for five days covering NCC's girls and Brossart's boys. Mike Fields of the Herald Leader didn't miss a Mustangs game and WKYT was there to film highlights from the tournament every day. ICN-6 carried the championship games live on TV and Coach Mike Code will be on 130 Homer - The Sports Animal Wednesday night from 6pm to 7pm. We will have a reception/rally on Sunday that will draw the Mustang nation and we will push over 250 state championship T-Shirts and our seniors will wear "A" STATE CHAMPIONSHIP RINGS.

 

Mudslingers on this site take great pride in bashing anything or everything good that happens to any of their "target" schools. Those who know, know what's going on and appreciate it. My mother taught me long ago that "Sticks and Stones Will Break Your Bones - But Words Can Never Hurt You!"
