Sounds like it was a battle that went down to the final seconds.

Highlands went up 14-0 in the first quarter, followed by a scoreless second quarter to make it 14-0 Bluebirds at the half.

Cov Cath received the kickoff to start the 3rd quarter, and 5 plays later Dylan Courtney passed it deep and hit Jason Fedor in stride 33 yards downfield, and Fedor rand it in for a 58 yard touchdown. On the following series Cov Cath put together an 85 yard drive capped off with a 1 yard touchdown run by freshman Kiyan Miller out of a power package. Score was 14-14 at the end of the third quarter.

Highlands started off the 4th quarter by putting together a nice 98 yard drive to score and pull back ahead 21-14. On the following series the Birds had Cov Cath pinned back on a 3rd and 8, but the Colonels converted on another big pass from Courtney to Fedor, this time for 38 yards. Then Kiyan Miller broke out of a tackle to run 18 yards for a Cov Cath touchdown on the following play to make the score 21-21 with 4 minutes left in the game.

Highlands started off on their own 16 yard line after the kickoff and quickly marched down the field to score and go up 28-21 with 2 minutes and change remaining. But then Cov Cath followed that up with their own touchdown drive, burning about a minute and half off the clock. The Colonels went for two following the touchdown and Highlands stopped them, leaving the score 28-27 Highlands with 1:16 left in the game. Cov Cath kicked off and covered the return well, and then forced the Birds three-and-out in the following series.

Highlands punted and the ball was downed with 3 seconds remaining in the game. Cov Cath was at their own 41 yard line and had time for one last play. Courtney was in an empty backfield and Highlands was in their prevent package. He threw it downfield and the Birds receiver got a hand on the ball, tipping it at the 10 yard line but the intended receiver (missed who it was) caught the ball and ran it in for a touchdown with zeros on the clock.

Colonels won 33-28.

Wow. Be cool to see that final play.

This is what we are doing now..."Missed who it was?".

Why rush only 3 in that Hail Mary situation? I know everyone plays it that way but my thought is rush 5. Do not give the QB time to set up and throw the ball.

Just seems like the exchange of heart breaks seems appropriate, but not equal.

The ending was not 100% accurate.     CovCath received the ball back with 6 seconds remaining.    They ran a play and it was incomplete.    The scoreboard clock showed no time left but the referee said there was a second remaining and there was one last snap...

So you're saying there was a call made by the officials in the game that many people from one side may not have agreed with and it had a defined impact on the outcome of the game? Hmmh. That sounds vaguely familiar.

I agree with the “why only rush 3” question. They almost got the QB with 3 probably would’ve with 4.

 

I'd say the officials got the time right. One of them would’ve been looking at the game clock.
