  • Owensboro’s offensive and defensive lines could have their hands full against Catholic’s size and strength up front. From everything I’ve seen and heard, Catholic’s O-line has put on a blocking clinic

I am going with the Devils in this one 28-17.

This is a tough game to pick.

I'm fully aware of what OCath can do seeing them take down my Purples.  I also feel O got the monkey off their backs a bit on Friday night.  But looking honestly, is Daviess County really a good team?  Fair question.

I think Miles Edge for OCath will have a big game.  And for the record, I think he is likely one of the most underrated players in the entire state.

I think Kingston Dillard will have a big game for O.  He is also very underrated!

Can Hampton get going running the ball?  That will be a key for this game.

But to me, which QB plays better?  I don't know, but I think whichever one does likely wins this game.

I'll be keeping up with this one from South Warren stadium on Friday.

I'm an OC guy, but this game worries me. In my opinion, the game hinges on the qb for OHS. I think OC will have the better line play, but I don't think they'll shut down the Devils. Can they limit the big plays? If so, I believe they'll win. If not, the streak will be over.

I'm going to trust the OC coaching staff - they seem to mostly have good schemes and game plans. In my opinion, they are also underrated Purple88.

My prediction: 31-21 Owensboro Catholic

Or 42-21 Owensboro ?

Kidding - I'll stick with the first prediction.

I agree with all these, but I was a little shocked at the Apollo score for Catholic

Both teams are rolling after City/County wins, but I think this matchup at Rash Stadium could come down to the trenches.

Owensboro Catholic has shown they can run the football effectively, and with Miles Edge carrying the load, I expect them to keep pounding the rock. The Aces’ offensive line has been consistent, and that should give them an edge against what’s looked like a vulnerable Owensboro front. If they establish the ground game early, they can control tempo and keep Owensboro’s big-play offense off the field.

That being said, the Red Devils definitely have a path to victory. Owensboro's skill guys will be able to exploit Catholic's shaky secondary, but that only works if their O-line holds up. Protecting the quarterback against OC's stout defensive line is no easy task, and if they can’t, those opportunities downfield will be limited.

I like the Aces in this one, but I’m expecting it to be close. Could come down to who wins the line of scrimmage in the 4th quarter. Carothers is going to have to elevate his game in this one, IMHO.

Prediction: OC in a tight one.

I'll go with OC because they are probably better in the trenches.

I think this game will be decided by less than 7 points either way. Does anybody know if the Red Devils recent transfer from Castle High School(Indiana) will play Friday night? He could make a big difference on defense.

That is fantastic and I hope whatever powers that be find a way to work with Mr. Green.

I've heard no, but that was from "someone who knows someone", so ?

3 in a row for Catholic but 2022 was a last minute Hail Mary that got them a last minute TD against a team that was missing several defensive starters, namely Jeremiah Goodwin, and Kanye Johnson.  That was probably OC’s best win of the entire history of this series.  It moved to Rash in 23 against a not very good O team.  Atwell had to complete a 4th and 9 or so in the last minutes drive and be pushed into end zone on last possible play to get the W.  Last year O wasn’t much better but ok and had the lead in the 4th and Atwell added a go ahead TD and then tacked another on in the last minute.  Atwell was the difference in each game - and without him I really believe O wins all those games and the last 2 rather easily.

To start season, I thought this was O’s game easily - even after O buried Mayfield and played to a tie with south warren, while Catholic couldn’t stop Tighlman, I still thought this was O’s game.  But make no mistake, BG is down somewhat from my perspective (at least BG weeks 1 and 2)…and CAL and X would throttle Owensboro Catholic as bad as they did O.

This comes down to Hampton - I’ve heard he was pulled as a precaution last week.  He gets a crease, he’s gone.  Catholic doesn’t have that.  Edge is good, but he’s not going to beat everyone the way Hampton can.  Hampton looked burst out of cannon on the first run against County.  Green is also a punishing back, similar to Edge for OC.  I think O’s defense will bend some, but not break.  It’s at Rash and O will be fired up.  I think O wins if Hampton plays.

O 31-14

O 31-14

We can play what ifs all day long, but at the end of the day, OC still has a 3 year streak against O.

Here are my what ifs:

'22: actually no what if. O never should have lost that game - Their coaches blew it. I can't remember his name, but they had a very talented and fast rb that year. 4th and 1 late, a 1st down seals it - O runs the only play that OC had any chance of stopping. Instead of using the kids speed to get outside, they run right up the gut, and get stuffed. Then, the Hail Mary to set OC up for the winning TD. Blown game by O.

'23: 3rd and short late on about Os 45 yard line, Atwell throws a little swing pass to Edge who proceeds to trip with nothing but green grass in front of him. OC punts. With O driving to take the lead, Edge drops an INT thrown right to him (what if he doesn't trip? What if he catches that INT?). O takes the lead - OC has to make a long drive to win the game. Atwell had a hell of a game. They probably don't win without him.

24: the biggest what if of them all. OC  is set to run O out of the stadium. Easy (and I mean easy) TDs on their 1st 2 drives, and in the redzone again, looking to go up 21-0 - Atwell makes a huge mistake and throws an almost pick 6 (he ran the kid down). Anyway, instead of 21-0, it's 14-7 and we have a ball game. What if OC scores a TD there instead of the INT?. Does O give up, down 21-0? Who knows, because it's a big what if?

I'm really looking forward to this game - if Os line and step it up, they most likely win. If not, and their qb has to scramble all game, I think it's OCs to lose. I just pray for a clean safe game,  with no injuries. I root for O every game they play, except for 1 each year.

This game is a hard one to pick.  Until last Friday, I would have said OC by 14.  After the dismantling of DC by the Devils and the not so good performance from the Aces at home vs. Apollo, I have no idea which teams are going to come to play.  I lean O due to the game at Rash.  Everyone in the state knows how hard it is to go into Rash and walk out with the win.  I guess I will go with the Devils to win in a very tight one.
