I like looking at the old newspaper articles for older games and since St X and BG began playing in October of 1925, which is very near 100 years ago, I thought it'd be interesting to find that article.  And I think it's interesting.  It's written in a style of a by-gone era and even though BG fell 21-0 it was still very entertaining for me, and I hope some may enjoy it too.

I am including the entire page as the advertisements/photos/illustrations are interesting to me as well.

Enjoy!

The first St. X player to be 1st team All-State played in that game. Frank O'Bryan. Listed as an end in the article.

@Purple88 in the BG preseason thread you mentioned a “3-horse race” for the QB position.  Does BG have a backup to Strautman that is more of a run-oriented QB?   I just wonder if there are still struggles if they look at some different options in the X game.

Interesting question.  Yes, back in the pre-season the contestants were Strautman, who has taken all the varsity snaps to date; JR Embree Dotson, but Dotson now has turned out to be a real asset at safety, so not sure of his "availability" for backup QB; then finally FR Anthony Davis, who started last evening in the JV game.  Would you really put a FR QB out in front of this St X defense?  I wouldn't and I don't think BG will either.  I will say Davis is the future.  When that future comes about?  Who knows?

I keep trying to tell myself this has a chance to be competitive but have no reasoning to back it.

Going to have to take X in a score similar to the Owensboro performance.

31-7 X

After watching hightlights of BG/OC, I think this game may be a little closer than most are predicting. I thought both teams looked solid.

BG offense only scored 10 pts against OC and St. X defense has been playing very well in two scrimmages plus the Owensboro game so I don't see BG scoring more than 10. OC outgained BG like 2-1 in yards and St. X has a strong offense so I think St. X will score more than 20 pts but I don't see the BG offense without Barber getting to 20 pts.

I like to try to balance the historical articles for both teams, so I'm now providing an article from the first Bowling Green win in this series, which occurred in 2011, which was the ninth time BG played St X.  BG QB Scooter Hollis was instrumental in this game and win.  The article is very interesting mentioning BG was the only team to defeat St X besides T since a 2006 win by Male over X.  Wow!  That's a 5-year streak.  Impressive!

BG would go on to win their second state championship with a win over Anderson County.

St. X would finish 2011 falling in the 3rd Round of the playoffs to T at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.

I was looking at St. X stat report from BG game last year and noticed LB Ben Pinkston didn't play due to injury.  He was 3rd leading tackler on team only playing 9 games. If had played all 12 would have been 2nd leading tackler on team behind Luka Bentz. He played well against Owensboro last week and should make an impact this Friday.

Courier Journal predictions were a bit interesting based off last week's performance of both teams. But traditionally this game is a close, contested game for four quarters.

Not this year. Unless X is distracted due to the “Coach Wallace returns to BG for a final time”, the Tigers win easily.
