Is this the most wide open of the six classes?

We should have a good idea after a couple of weeks.

I think 5A should be fun this year. IMO you could make the argument for any of the top 5 to be playing Thanksgiving weekend at minimum. At this point, I am very intrigued by Atherton, but not completely ready to insert them in to the conversation without a little more evidence but if they can build on their scrimmage with Boyle, look out!

Atherton has a couple boys who have offers from bama, Michigan, Norte dame and so on….they'll be very good I think. Their schedule is rather light though. The only true test before November will be Dupont. If they drop a game to anyone else that is considered an upset this year.

4 teams from District 1 in the top 10 is wild. Talk about no off weeks.

Graves' first 7 games are all BGP ranked top 10 teams. What a schedule to start with!

Mayfield #2 in 2A

Tilghman #1 in 4A

Murray #5 in 3A

Union County #8 in 3A

Owensboro #3 in 5A

Madisonville-North Hopkins #8 in 5A

Apollo #10 in 5A

That is crazy. Our schedule here at Owensboro is already tough enough. Now add 4 teams in our district ranked in the top 10.

I think Apollo, Graves and MNH were all 9-15 ranked teams anyway, but the vacuum left from South Warren and Highlands leaving allowed them all in the top 10.  I think Apollo/MNH/Graves can all make some damage in the playoffs this year.  I think this might be Apollo’s year to shine in the district - Owensboro will be a huge hill to climb, but I fully expect them to be competitive and possibly win the other 2 games.

Great points @Brown!  And remember the #4 team from District 1 comes to the #1 team from District 2 to begin the playoffs.  So, I expect the district battles in District 1 this year to be all out wars!

Graves never shies away from playing a tough schedule.

Helps that two of the regional rivalries are Mayfield and Tilghman.

From what I've heard, just based on talent, this year should be Owensboro's best chance at a title in probably a long time.

Then again, you still gotta play the games, so we'll see how that pans out.

The game this week will tell us a lot.
