I guess it's a little bit of a semantics situation. Ellis and Faust were both 9th Region coaches. Ellis had more career coaching wins. Faust had more career head coaching wins while coaching a 9th Region basketball team.

Is Calipari the winningest SEC coach of all time because of his wins at UMass and Memphis? 

Just a great leader that always showed integrity and molded young men into teams and individuals that always made their schools, parents, and fans proud.

He's earned the right to step away on his own terms.  Enjoy retirement coach.

One of the most gut wrenching moments I ever experienced was his team that won the ninth region (I believe it was 2003? but I might be wrong) when they had eventual state champion Mason County beat in the first round, and it got away.

I didn't realize he had been there that long.  You just don't see that these days.  What was his total record and number of region wins?  Has he always been at Saint Henry?

At one point he was an assistant coach at NewCath.  But that was maybe mid 80's?  Then went to St. Henry.

And it got away for two reasons:  1).  Crusaders lost their leading scorer and go-to center (already 20(?) pts) when he turned his ankle shortly before halftime; and 2).  Chris Lofton had an epic shooting 2nd half.  Royals were untouchable in the remaining Sweet 16 championship drive.

If memory serves correctly, I believe he was a baseball and basketball coach at NCC then when Ron Dawn got his first head coaching job as boys coach at St. Henry, he followed him out there. He would then assume the mantle when Ron went back to NCC to be head coach.
