Giants at Reds (3/27 - 3/30)

Season opening series!

Logan Webb on the mound for the Giants (13-10 last year), Hunter Greene for the Reds (9-5 last year).

I'm very excited and very optimistic about the Reds this season despite all the starters on the IL to start the season. I fully expect the Reds to win the NL Central and I honestly believe that's a great possibility if this pitching staff can remain healthy. You can't win them all unless you win the 1st one, so let's get things started in the right direction this afternoon.

Looks like most prognosticators have the Reds as a .500 team. Good projection. This team could win the division or be 15 games below .500. Still so many young players that we hope will take a step up. And that is always an iffy hope. I will be optimistic and say 85 wins.

In 11 years with Cleveland, Terry Francona had a .549 winning percentage; he went 92-70 (.568) in his first year.

In 8 years with Boston, he had a .574 winning percentage; he went 98-64 (.605) in his first season.

There is evidence that he should immediately put a winner on the field. It will be interesting to see if this trend continues in Cincinnati.

Interesting stat.  The Reds have a 31.1% roster turnover rate this year.

Reds blow a win for Green on opening day and the Giants have tied it in the top of the 9th and 3-3 now we hope not to give up another run.

Now not only did Gibaut blow the save with the Reds leading 3-2 going to the 9th he walks a guy with one out and then goes on to give up 4 runs and the Reds now trail 6-3 with two outs and a pitching change.

I would have blasted Bell for such an idiotic move, so I’m going to blast Tito. Why in the world would you think Gibaut was your best 9th inning option?

Giants tried to let the good guys back in the game (hitting batters in the 9th is never a good strategy) but warning track power wasn’t good enough in the end.

Hunter Green looked great today.  Reds, as they did last year, a lot, waste a great Hunter Green start.  let's' hope today was not the tone for the season.

Still will never understand why the Reds play opening day and then have the following day off before resuming the series.  Makes it feel like a scrimmage.
