Manual getting new turf field

Featured Replies

Haven't been there in a long time. Have they replaced the lights yet?

Man... I know it's time for them to get new turf, but there was just something about Manual Stadium having grass that made it special. Hope they keep the hill grass.

Hopefully we can get some playoff doubleheaders at Manual Stadium!

Have to think there will be several early season JCPS games moved from the home team's field to the away team. Probably will see some neutral sites as well. Stinks that it will mess up the schedule but glad those schools are all getting new fields/facilities.

I can't speak for anything being accomplished aside from the playing surface itself, but looking at the Twitter picture in the post above yours, they have the drainage system and gravel in place and you can tell from the small construction roller/compactor that they're finish grading the gravel. That means they need a couple-few days to lay the turf, then another 2 or 3 days to cut in the stripes and yardline numbers. They can add in the field goals at the same time the stripes and yardline numbers are going in. Then its a day or two for installing the infill. So call it 6 working days on the short side of things, and 9 or 10 on the long side of things. For the field to be ready.

They'll also have to dress up around the dirt area adjacent to the field, but even if that's not completed for the first game or two, that shouldn't be much more than just a headache for now as long as it's not turned into a mud-pit by any bad weather.

As long as the weather plays nice they ought to be able to play their home opener there against Central on Aug 22nd.

Fern Creek is hoping field is ready for Ballard game in September.

What a shame, how can this not be complete in time for the start of the season.
