The four finalists for the Naismith Men's College Coach of the Year Award were announced this afternoon and include the following four coaches: Rick Pitino of St. Johns, Jon Scheyer of Duke, Kelvin Sampson of Houston, and Bruce Pearl of the Auburn Tigers. 

A little surprised that neither that Mark Pope nor especially Pat Kelsey was not finalists.

Outside of Pitino, the other 3 did exactly what was expected of them & their team.

I'm looking for someone that elevated their team above expectations.

Pat Kelsey not being on this list makes it a farce. 

Pitino should be the man because he is the man!!

Unfortunately for Pope, I think it is hard to put a coach that finished 6th in his conference as a finalist for coach of the year. When other coaches finished even higher in that same tough conference.  Pope has had an amazing first season, but unfortunately so has those coaches that are finalist. The two coaches that I think should have been finalist is Kelsey, and also Golden for Florida. Before this year started no one had Florida as being one of the top teams in the country, and he now has them as one of the favorites. 

I agree on Pope but Kelsey and good call on Golden I'd forgot about him.

And while UK has performed better than expected, they were still considered a top 25 squad to begin the year.

And I concur. Outside of Pitino, I'm not sure why the other three are on the list.

My list would probably be Kelsey, Pitino, Dusty May.  Throw in some SEC coaches. Florida, UK, Mizzou, Vandy, Ole Miss. 

I'd say they just made the lazy choices.

Rick Pitino or Todd Golden would get my vote.  I thought Pitino a few weeks ago, but I might give the edge to Golden today.

The finalists have all done outstanding jobs this year, but Pitino is the one who most surpassed expectations.  At least out of that group.
