Danville's Pippen resigning as boys basketball coach

Featured Replies

I think Jason would make Danville a great coach. I know he would've done well at Lincoln also. Its a shame Lincoln let a great young coach leave. I do know the kids at Lincoln would've love to had played for him. The A.D. of Danville better work hard to get him.

There is a 16th Region girl's coach that is also interested in this job.

I agree :thumb:

Don't be completely shocked to see Ed McKinney back on the sidelines at Danville. He coached the boys for several seasons before stepping down. He recently coached the girls at Danville before stepping aside at the beginning of this year. Pippen's departure has been rumored forever and I think McKinney resigned from the girls to free himself up for the boys.

I think this was the thought last year, but Coach McKinney is now the assistant principal. IT was as an intern to begin the year, but Win Smith was named the prinicipal and I would say that Coach McKinney will stay as the assistant.

What type of job would Danville be. It is a small school that is dominated by football, but they do have plenty of athletes. They have some the best basketball players playing in the 12th region this year, just none of them play for Danville (Perrin, Overstreet along with a few that don't play bball any longer). If a coach can ever get on the same page with the football players, Danville could be a good place.

With the football coach being the AD, I wonder if they want a strong basketball program there?

I believe that coach Harp would love for Danville to be successful in Basketball. I have heard that Pippin wanted some of the football players to play in summer camps during two a days and Coach Harp was not happy about that.I think with a new coach that more players will be into playing.

Any new information on this vacancy?

People in their system, who are excellent sources, tell me contact has been made with a couple of guys, one with previous head coaching experience, one who used to coach there and is a present head coach somewhere else, and one who has a high school aged son and was a good basketball player in college. Several others have contacted them, but not sure of the status overall.

Rumor out of the 13th region is that Roscoe Denny will lead the Admirals next season.

Sam Harp loves to WIN. No matter which sport. I would say that with his name on the program as the AD then he would want to win.

Roscoe still owes on his phone bills from last time at the 'ville

The only thing I know about Sam Harp is that he is one of the best Football coaches of all time.

I heard that the last time Danville won the region everyone in the gym from Danville was happy except for Coach Harp. I heard that is why Roscoe left the first time, because the football program got everything and the basketball program got leftovers.

But not at the expense of football.
