Huge recommendation, especially if you are both a history and historical baseball fan. This covers New York City from the end of the Civil War to the end of World War II, both the inner workings of a growing city, the Tammany Machine and the Great Depression, plus all the stars of the Yankees, Dodgers, and Giants. Almost 500 pages but reads like a novel.

Good book about the history of the Ryder Cup and background on the 2016 event.

I'm reading "The Game" by Ken Dryden. I like hockey and Ken Dryden has fascinated me for years. He played 8 years at goalie and won 6 Stanley Cups with so many more accolades. His goalie mask is one of the more iconic ones as well.

I enjoyed this. It was conversations with British soccer players about life for athletes in the 1950s and 1960s before salaries became astronomical. Many of them held second jobs in the season. Some retired quite poor and had to continue to work beyond their soccer career. That said, all seemed very happy with their lot in life. I'm sure there are similarities with American sports from the time period as well. Good read!

 

Started strong, finished poor. Interesting historical fiction about Christopher Marlowe, but I believe the author took too many liberties. She does outline the changes of fact made in an epilogue at the end of the book.
