Marching band is for football, and Pep Band is for basketball and volleyball...That's pretty much the only difference. The Pep Band is made up of students who were in the Marching Band in the fall semester. As far as we know, no changes are to be made to Marching Band.

 

I guess that's why I was confused. I knew the same people were in both, and I guess I never thought about how it was narrowed down for Basketball and volleyball.

IMO, you can count on that happening...One of the athletics guys was quoted saying "Anybody who wants to be in the band will be..." That sounds comforting, especially from a musical standpoint.

So what's the current schedule? Will the pep band be playing at the next home game, or the scabs? And are there any plans to voice displeasure at the move, because I'm sure you'd have support on campus, particularly if you emphasized the point that students are hosed on seating anyway.

From what I understand, nothing is going to change THIS SEASON. The REAL Pep Band will finish this year out, and the watered-down version will start next season...

The idea of a boycott by the current Pep Band members in next year's bad has been voiced...The Athletic Department's response to that was "We'll replace them if needed."

I wish someone at Kentucky would do something about the UK band. It's absolutely horrible. Once is was one of the best in the SEC...now it's a total joke.

Come on. I find it hard to believe that the majority of people with time to be in the pep band are those with the bills you're speaking of. Let college students be college students and let alumni / boosters with money donate dollars and sit in good seats. I can't believe that there is a lot of alumni saying, "sweet, I can take ths spot of a 19 year old college kid with a trumpet..."

Deuce for the record I think this is crap. A college Marching/Pep Band should consist of students attending the University...no if, ans or buts!!!!!

 

Next thought...did this Greneir person do something to improve himself over the years (besides kissing the right butt) that makes him better than Byrne (which BTW he appears to be doing a very good job)??

I am not saying it is a good reason, as I think this is a horrendous idea. Can't wait to see the 45-year old alumnit cheerleaders coming back on the sidelines for UL games.

I have a very good friend who plays in the Alumni band. They also went with the women's basketball team to Chicago last year and played for them in the NCAA tourney.

 

The basketball games they usually play at are over the holiday breaks as HSSB said, students are gone.
