??⚽⚾ ❓Who in your school's or area's Pantheon of basketball stars were great all-around high school athletes? 

An older thread popped while browsing the BGP archives. We can go beyond the "major" sports, so open to track, swimming, tennis, etc. too. I think there might be some surprises.

Please include sports played, and if possible, accolades, titles won (individual and/or team), years played, or whatever you feel is relevant.

3 off the top of my head from Scott High School:
Jake Ohmer (Basketball, Baseball) - Basketball @ WKU, Georgetown, professionally overseas
Doug Pelfrey (Basketball, Baseball, Football) - Baseball (1 year, maybe 2) & football @ UK; Football w/ Bengals
Bryan Stevenson (Basketball, Baseball) - Baseball @ EKU

 

Gage Hughes (Greenup County ? & ⚾️)

? | Before Jacob Spurlock supplanted him earlier this season, Hughes was the 16th Region's career leader in 3pt FGs.

• He scored over 2,500 points during his time as a Musketeer.

•Honorable mention all-state on the hardwood. 

 

⚾️ | Hughes helped Greenup County to 182 wins over six varsity seasons.

• They won 32 straight to open the 2016 season and achieved state #1.

• The Musketeers made the state tournament three times in Hughes' four high school seasons.

• First team all-state on the diamond.

• Drafted in the 24th round of the MLB draft by the Kansas City Royals. Spent a few years in the KC minor league system before injuries cut his MLB dream short.

Jake played Football at Scott also I believe he was qb.

Chris Lofton, Mason Co. was a great wideout as well.

Tim Couch was quite good in basketball in addition to his accomplishments in football.

Jeff Brohm was drafted in the MLB in addition to his football success. Brian played football, basketball, and baseball at Trinity. Helped the Shamrocks to a state football title, the program's first Sweet 16 appearance, and a state baseball state championship game appearance all as a senior.

James Quick was a good basketball player in addition to his football success. DeVante Parker at Ballard was a good basketball player, as well. 

Don't forget Don Gullett, all state in basketball, football and baseball his senior year at McKell high school. Obviously a great baseball player, he also led the state in scoring in football, once scoring 72 points in a single game, 11 TDS and kicked 6 extra points.

80’s. Warren Central. Chris Turner excelled in football (qb), basketball and baseball (World Series ring) with NY Yankees. 
1996-2000. Greenwood HS. Corey Hart could’ve been a division, one basketball player, but primarily focused on baseball. Long career with the Brewers, Mariners, and Pirates, as well as being a two time All-Star.

Quoting from The Daily Independent, "Gullett had 17 major college basketball scholarship offers, 35 major college football offers (including Notre Dame, Ohio State and Alabama) and was a projected No. 1 professional baseball draft choice as a senior at McKell High School in 1969".  It's not even close, he's the GOAT of Kentucky multi-sport athletes. 

Maybe out of place in this thread but Steve Hamilton (born in Ky but moved to WVa) played both basketball and baseball at Morehead and then played for the original Lakers in the NBA and pitched for the New York Yankees.

I may be mistaken, but I seem to recall that Mason County’s Deron Feldhaus was runner up for Mr. Basketball as well as runner up in the state golf tournament. 

David Justice did pretty well for himself if I do recall.
