I think most everyone on BGP and most everyone in the community (at least the ones that understand Ky High School football) realizes that this schedule is going to be a gauntlet!  But what's the saying that gets floated around there, that's right:

I think a schedule like the Birds have might actually do the opposite of your premise which is it will prepare these young men for a Championship run come playoffs b/c they are playing the best of the best when it comes to Freddy D, Cooper, Boyle, Ryle, Cov Cath, and Elder.  Probably will be a lot better then going thru the season having 7 running clock games where your main starters are playing 110% for a half and then getting shut down to have JV players finish the running clock game out.

If they lose some of these games will it be disappointing sure, but will they bow their heads and forget that the BIG PRIZE is in December not in these regular season match ups.

Let's go!  Can't wait for August 22nd with the Season Opener!

Some of these games will be won by running behind that massive line. Will Bird faithful be patient enough with that game plan? Will the OC be patient enough to execute that game plan?

I think Lorenzen gets time at TE mostly, some FB and some QB. Rio will be a polished starting QB. Crazy Oline. He will be needed as a TE/WR.  So will Harris at WR. 

I think this is the team that makes or breaks it for the Sphire era. 

We all know that football is won and lost at the high levels up-front and through the QB because most of the top teams (in 4A's case, Boyle, Cov Cath, PT, FC, Highlands) all have fairly similar skill players. Occasionally, you have an outlier or two (2024 PT & Boyle), but for the most part, this holds true across KY FB classes annually.

Highlands enters 2025 with the biggest and best line in 4A. They have a stockpile of capable QBs. 

PT lost a small college's worth of talent. Gone is the get-out-of-jail-free card Boyle Co. has held along with several other key guys, Franklin Co. has a lot to replace, and Cov Cath... well, Cov Cath will always be Cov Cath. But the door is open for Highlands wider than it may have been in a LONG time. There is no lurking unbeatable beast in 4A. There is no generational team (Cooper, 23-24) in 4A. 

In short, Highlands has all the pre-2025 set up to win it all that it could ask for. If they can't get it done this year, you gotta ask, "Is Highlands even Highlands anymore?"  

I don’t think that’s a fair question. Look at Highlands before Dale Mueller. Successful yes, very. But they weren’t winning every year like they did with Mueller. That was an unprecedented run that can’t be matched again.

But this is the longest time they have gone without winning a title.  Expecting big things this year.

Is Lorenzen good with not playing QB? It's likely he has dreamed of playing that position since he was a young kid and missing out on that opportunity would have to be a hard thing to swallow.  I hope he gets some chances to display his QB skills, but with their killer schedule, there won't be much mop up time this year, unfortunately.

I've been wondering the same thing. Almost any school in NKY would take Lorenzen as their QB1 right now. Cooper and Cov Cath would never admit that and rightfully so because they have 2 phenomenal QB1's. Lorenzen is that dude but man that Rio kid is NICE. You can't knock Rio out that spot and there's a good chnce Tayden being on Rio's heels has helped push him to be where he is today. Tayden is living out a dream being a Highlands FOOTBALL PLAYER. Tayden's a very gifted type of football player. His chance at QB1 will come when Rio graduates if he remains to be healthy. I heard that Highlands has another QB in the class of 2027 that is also nice.
