Union County 43 Belfry 21

Featured Replies

Final per the update thread and broadcast.

Braves dominated!

Excellent display as I was very impressed with all aspects of this Union team.

Johnson had a great game and added a pair of interception on defense. Union probably had six or seven holding calls and still overcame them time and time again. Excellent game plan and excellent coaching as their OLine dominated Belfry.

For Belfry, they move to 2A and return 19 of their 22 starters.

This night belongs to a special Union team making history!

Congratulations to Union County on an impressive win and for advancing to the big one! Congratulations to Belfry on a nice season too.

I’m unfamiliar with Union County. Sounds like they have some athletes. Is it possible they have a punchers chance at CAL or is going to be the same story where the discrepancy in 3A is too big. Side note. Move CAL up to 4A please.

They are probably the only team outside of Central with a chance in 3A.

Johnson is every bit the ball carrier Cortez Stone except with the ability to impact the game in more ways.

They have two or three other big play threats and a quality offensive line.

Where CAL has them up against the ropes is their defense isn’t exactly lock down capable and their line has a bad habit of holding when Johnson bounces it. They overcame six or seven holding calls last night against a pretty sketchy Belfry defense but that won’t work against CAL.

Awesome to see Union County advance to the championship. They’ve had a solid program for several years now and it’s nice to see them finally get over the hump. Go Braves!

Yes it is sooo awesome for another west kentucky team representing in the state finals...bring it back home to west kentucky....they always seem to have had some pretty good teams and athletes especially as of late...

That school is littered with athletes just look at how dominant their wrestling program has been in KY over the last 10/20 years.

Which often translates to football.

Great win for Union County!  So happy for their program!

Best of luck next week.  I'll be pullling for you!

I have no doubt Johnson is a really good player, but don’t forget, when it counted, CAL held Cortez Stone to 61 yards on 22 carries.  Central also had 2 or 3 more big play threats, but CAL held the Central offense to 200 total yards & 0 points in the rematch.  Union Co. will be riding high on emotion when the game starts, but it’ll be interesting to see how they settle into the game after the first series or so.  Honestly, if I didn’t have a rooting interest, I’d probably be pulling for Union Co. in this one because it’s good for KY football when new teams come along to compete for championships.

Don't get me mistaken, as I mentioned in the prediction thread I see a lot more circumstances where CAL blows Union County out rather than Union staying close or even winning close...

Just simply stating that Union pleasantly surprised me and are the only other 3A team I can see even having those type of scenarios. Johnson is a special player... but CAL is simply playing on a different stratosphere than any other 3A program.

I think there is a higher likelihood of seeing Johnson with a stat line of 30+ carries for under 130 yards... but this guy is also capable of turning a six yard gain into sixty on any team in Kentucky if one assignment is missed or one tackle is missed.
