Magic Johnson and Larry Bird both played on 6 60 or more win teams apeice.

I'm 6'2" and if the next tallest player ont he court is 5'7"-5'10" I'll flat DOMINATE. I'll score EVERY SINGLE TIME I TOUCH THE BALL, unless I get hit with a double or triple than I'll get an assist. When you are 5-6 inches BIGEER than EVERYONE ELSE. The game isn't hard. Am I the only person who thinks that's valid????????????? So you're penalizing him (theoretically) for being physically ahead of his time? He wasn't just some immovable ox (like Shaq), he was a fluid athlete. You're looking for reasons to asterisk his accomplishments when frankly there is no reason for it. Should Iverson be penalized because he's the quickest guy on the floor?

Diminishing a players legacy because management can't bring in good players for them is weak.

No what Im saying is if your a top 5 player then you need to be able to carry your teams to greater accomplishments like Jordan did. He had some great players on his teams like Jerry Lucas, Bob Cousy, etc. I think he is 1 of the 10 best players, but not top 5.
January 31, 200719 yr And you are making my point that balances that out. Teams could pretty much zone and triple team Wilt and it was legal. Shaq plays in a time that a good portion of the time he goes one on one against an undersized, undertalented center. Don't forget that Wilt played against a talented center EVERY NIGHT. There were no Dwayne Schniezus (sp??) to guard Wilt. Your point is a legit point and would carry more weight in the argument if there were not other things to balance that point out. Looking at your point with the view that teams could legally and consistently double and triple team by just not guarding some of the players on Wilt's team AND there were not as many teams meaning no slouches to dominate, it balances it out. Every team has 7 footers. Wilt played against a bunch of 6'7" guys that weren't ball handlers or shooters. How is that compared to guys like Hakeem, Duncan, Robinson, and a plethera of PF's. People can shoot expecially professionals. Double teaming was outlawed in 47'. Wilt wasn't in the league when zoning was allowed. Shaq is because the zone is now semi-allowed.

My point is that head to head I don't think he could have done a whole lot with Shaq. Comparing numbers isn't right comparing the player is.
January 31, 200719 yr My grandfather was the trainer for the Cincinnati Royals when they were still around and he became very close with the Big O Oscar Robertson. I've met him a couple of times and he is one of the nicest, most refined people I have ever met.

January 31, 200719 yr The best players find ways to win championships. Oscar Robertson only did it once. The Lakers were able to beat the great Celtic team in the 80s for Championships and vice versa. The best NBA players are the guys who get it done on the biggest stage. When Oscar Robertson won an NBA title he was playing 2nd fiddle to Kareem. You can talk about stats all day long. But any great basketball mind will tell you than numbers are good, but championships is what its all about. I see you are avoiding my question. How many teams were able to win a title over the Celtics in the 60's???

Just realized I said they were the 76ers and wanted to point out that it was actually the Warriors which now makes me understand GT's post after this.
