January 31, 200719 yr That is completely untrue. You can talk all day about Championships but if you don't have a supporting cast there is nothing you can do about it. See Shaq and the Magic and Kobe and the current lakers. And neither players are top 5 players in my book. Yes you have to have supporting casts, but as Jordan showed they dont have to be that good. The best players that I have picked were THE MAN on their championship teams.
January 31, 200719 yr It was the beginning of his Laker days it looks like. I'm not sure. I do think Shaq would be better head to head against Bill or Wilt, but I do think both are VERY good players. I just find it hard to believe that everyone puts Wilt of the list. I understand why he's on the list because he's got GREAT numbers, but IMO numbers don't make up the fact that Shaq dominated 7-footers and Wilt dominated everyone under 6'9" and had trouble with Russell who was shorter, but was athletic enough to contest his shots. You mean like how Olajuwon gave O'Neil fits? Also, if I am not mistaken there were not the defensive rules that give Kobe/Shaq/Michael the advantage when Wilt/Oscar played. A zone defense to stop Wilt was a good strategy.

I am not arguing Shaq and Kobe are top 5 players. Just that Championships have noting to do with it.

Luke Longley, Bill Wentington, John Paxson, etc. The whole time Jordan played he had Scotty Pippen, Horace Grant (3 years) and Dennis Rodman and a bunch of mediocre players.

I'm not saying that either. Jordan= Scoring Pippen= 2nd scorer Grant= Garbage player Rodman= Defensive and Rebounds They weren't the greatest players but they all fit well into that system and knew their role and played it perfectly.
January 31, 200719 yr The Bulls had 3 7-footers. That's 18 HARD fouls in the lane to go with Rodman's EXCELLENT defense. Pippen and Jordan were top 50 all time players. BJ Armstrong, Kerr, Harper, and Paxton were good shooters and knew their roles on the team (hit open shots and guard the point).

A zone defense to stop Wilt was a good strategy. I'm not arguing that. I'm argueing that Wilt played against some centers that were 6'7" and that's nothing. I'm 6'2" and if the next tallest player ont he court is 5'7"-5'10" I'll flat DOMINATE. I'll score EVERY SINGLE TIME I TOUCH THE BALL, unless I get hit with a double or triple than I'll get an assist. When you are 5-6 inches BIGEER than EVERYONE ELSE. The game isn't hard. Am I the only person who thinks that's valid?????????????

January 31, 200719 yr Grant and Rodman never played together. Jordan was nothing short of sensational with that bunch of players. OK so your argument is getting weaker every minute. It didn't say they played together. No doubt Jordan was great but he had the players he needed.
January 31, 200719 yr Grant and Rodman never played together. Jordan was nothing short of sensational with that bunch of players. Rodman replaced Grant at PF. Saying that role players aren't important is CRAZY!!!!

Teams could pretty much zone and triple team Wilt and it was legal. Shaq plays in a time that a good portion of the time he goes one on one against an undersized, undertalented center. Don't forget that Wilt played against a talented center EVERY NIGHT. There were no Dwayne Schniezus (sp??) to guard Wilt. Your point is a legit point and would carry more weight in the argument if there were not other things to balance that point out. Looking at your point with the view that teams could legally and consistently double and triple team by just not guarding some of the players on Wilt's team AND there were not as many teams meaning no slouches to dominate, it balances it out.
January 31, 200719 yr OK so your argument is getting weaker every minute. It didn't say they played together. No doubt Jordan was great but he had the players he needed. Thats the key to that statement. He had the players that he needed. No other player could have won a championsip with those players. Jordan was just that good. Its not a weak argument, it just shows you how great Jordan was.

By saying the players he needed I meant the players to fill the right role's on that team. Give any time 6 or 7 great role players and a star and you will win a few rings.
