The first CFP rankings will be released tonight on ESPN at 7 p.m.

While there is a lot of football left to play, these first rankings will give us a sense of who is in a "Win and They're In" position. 

Let's use this one thread to discuss the rankings weekly and track the changes.

Reminder the four highest ranked Conference Champions get seeds 1-4, the next highest 7 seeds will get at large bids as well as the highest ranked group of 5 conference champion. 

Only twice since 2014 has the team ranked #1 in the first ranking, Georgia in 2021 and Alabama in 2020, gone on to win the title.

The game between Alabama and LSU has a few stakes this weekend. The loser is clearly out of further playoff conversation unless a lot more is shaken up.

I think IU should be ranked higher than Penn State...but IU has a chance in 11 days to force themselves to the top of the list.

I agree I think Indiana is better than Penn State and have thought this for a few weeks.

Did not think I would see South Carolina in the top 25 at all this year.

The further part out of the playoff rankings are interesting to me. Miami is ranked above Ole Miss, Alabama, and Georgia. I know more football is left to be played but I found this interesting. It was be fun to see how everything unfolds at the end of the season and conference championship games.

Tennessee will be odd man out this week.

IMO the IU season story has been great, but they have beaten no one. If they don't beat OSU, I personally don't think their resume' is strong enough that they'd deserve a spot in the CFP.
