Saint Xavier (6-4) will host Simon Kenton (4-6) in the 1st round of the 6A playoffs after losing to Bowling Green 26-9. Simon Kenton is coming off a 58-28 loss to Ashland. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30.

Common opponent:

Ryle 37 Simon Kenton 0

St. X 31  Ryle 24

Against Bowling Green, St. X QB Mason Trimble threw for 120 yards and 1 touchdown. RB/WR Marlon Harbin rushed for 11 yards and had 62 yards receiving and 1 touchdown reception. LB Karsten Busch led the defense with 10 tackles with 2 for a loss.

Simon Kenton is led by QB Brady Lee who has thrown for 2716 yards on the season with 22 touchdowns and has rushed for 421 yards and 9 touchdowns. WR Grayson Harris is the top target of Brady Lee with 1219 yards and 11 touchdowns. The two leading rushers are RB Landon Brown with 210 yards and 4 touchdowns and RB Torin Turner with 217 yards and 1 touchdown. LB Aven Bohms leads the defense with 86 tackles with 7 for a loss and 3 sacks.

Like all Simon Kenton games this should be a high scoring game. Simon Kenton's defense has given up the 2nd most points in 6A with only Christian County giving up more. Simon Kenton's QB Brady Lee could give St. X problems as they have struggled against good QB's like Deuce Bailey last week. Can Simon Kenton pull the upset or does St. X roll into a most likely rematch with Ryle in the 2nd round?

Think the Tigers control this game from opening kickoff. Maybe the BG game was a wake up call this group of Tigers needed heading into the playoffs.

  • They might need a new OC too. They don't know how to run an offense when they have the lead. This is a team that has some good players and their record doesn't reflect the talent that they have.

Massey Ratings has it St. X 48-14 which I could see this score happening. Calpreps ratings show St. X better by 26 points. TP94 ratings show St. X better by 29 points.

Unless the Pioneers have someone else coaching the defense they will probably give up 40 points. I think they would do better without a DC. Praying they win! 48 to 47

There is some good football players on D.  They need to run a different defense.

Ryle shut out SK. Why would St X not be able to match that?

I expect X to dominate just like Ryle did.

I'll be surprised if this is not a running clock. I would think SK plays "no punt" football to have a chance to avoid the running clock, but it won't matter in the outcome.

I was talking about the Pioneers defense having decent football players the scheme they run sucks.

I like X in a big way on Friday.

I think LTR is right; the BG game wakes X up and they start building momentum from here.

RB Manny Gray who was hurt way back in the Central game should be back any game now so I'll be watching to see if he plays Friday. He will be a boost to offense since he runs like a miniature Barry Sanders. He's quick and can cut on a dime.
