Mayfield 27 Murray 17

Featured Replies

Final per Red Helmet Sports Network.

What an ending, things changed fast.

Lots to talk about from this game.

Congrats Mayfield!!

Last 90 seconds just shows these Cardinals don’t quit until the final whistle.  2nd and 20 on their own 28(?) throw a 72 yard bomb erasing the Murray well earned 17-14 lead to go up 21-17.  Then last 2nd pick-six makes it a very misleading final 27-17 score.

Mayfield got in the red zone about 4 times and came up with nothing.

Ouch.  That's a really tough loss for Murray fans.

What a game. Congrats to Mayfield!  The mentality of a Champion.  The game is 48 mins long.  Congrats to #1. Kirby closed this game for the Cards.

Was watching Red Helmet Video with a friend. When Mayfield got the ball back with 90 seconds left trailing 17-14, I looked at my friend and asked, is there any doubt in your mind that Mayfield will win this game. He said no. I agreed. Two plays later Mayfield scored.

As FB Head says above, right before mic drop….”mentality of a champion”.

IMO as I said from the start of the season..Neither one of these teams are going to beat OWENSBORO Catholic or Beechwood no matter where they play..Great game and still good luck to both...

That's a maybe....

Why do you think I am a murray fan? I have said before I am a fan of football, a state champ in football and actually more of a Mayfield fan...as a fan I can have my opinion like anyone else. IMO either team is going to beat Owensboro Catholic or Beechwood...too much talent and speed...and honestly Murray gave Mayfield all they wanted and then some..it was anyones game to win but honestly Murray should of closed the deal and if anyone thinks differently that's their opinion..

Heck of a game Malik! Great job.

Not sure why Murray didn’t try and run the ball more behind the big O-line.  They were outplayed the entire first half, but punching in the TD and field goal right before half was huge.  They had the momentum the entire second half until the last 2 minutes.  All they had to do was burn the clock.  Murray QB slid too soon on that keeper for a first down.  They convert that and the game is over.  Credit Mayfield for keeping their cool and making the big plays at the end.  I would like to know a penalty count for that game.  25?  30?  The refs looked confused everytime a flag flew.  Seemed unsure of where to spot the ball at times.  Last drive Mayfield had a play blown dead at the last second because a Murray player didn’t have his mouthpiece in.  I’ve never seen that happen in my life.

The difference I see between this Mayfield team and past Mayfield teams that have been successful, discipline and ball security.  Really good Mayfield teams have played smart and didn’t beat themselves.  This year there are way too many self inflicted penalties and they are turning the ball over quite a bit.  If they play like that against an OC or Beechwood, the outcome will not be good.  Just my two cents.

Saw the second half on Red Helmet as well. No dog in this fight. If your Murray on Mayfield's last offensive drive, why are you not in a deep zone? No excuse to let a receiver go streaking by.

that's all I was saying as a fan of the game and a Mayfield fan...that's football 101. MURRAY had Mayfield where they needed them. Let nothing behind you, keep everything in front of you and you probably win this game...I can be honest IMO even as a Mayfield fan...now if Murray would have won a certain Mayfield fan would have had all the excuses in the world as to why they lost...l saw many Mayfield fans last night leaving bc they thought the game was OVER...give credit to where its due...that was a good game and Mayfield won but against more season team and coaching staff either team could be in trouble come playoff time...

Got to remember this is high school football and these are young men.  Despite all the coaching and training, sometimes the young brain just goes blank for an instance.  For the better teams that’s the crack where “preparation meets opportunity”.
