Highlands Football Banquet

Featured Replies

We attended the banquet today. Six hours full of football, pride, and commitment was the topic of the day. Players, parents, grandparents and fans were entertained about player acomplishments, stories and awards. Congratulations to all the players. Good luck to the Senoirs as they move onto to future goals. GO BIRDS!

^ Did they talk about that special young man who passed away this past year?

How can you get people to sit in their seats for 6 hours in a year that you didn't win state? In those non-title years the banquet is usually like the lightning round.

The banquet, like the season was dedicated to Quinn. There was the inaugural 'Quinn Stapleton Award' that will be given to an HHS football player...forever. Coach Mueller did a wonderful job speaking about Quinn and what he and his family have meant to the city of Ft. Thomas. It was tough to listen to so I know it was even tougher for Coach to speak about...Pretty awesome...

Pretty sure Coach Mueller's philosophy is that it's a day to honor all players but especially the seniors. Just because they didn't win state doesn't mean those kids don't deserve the same honor as other classes. It makes for a long day but in the grand scheme of things, what's 6 hours on a Sunday to honor kids who have busted their tails for 4 straight years?

6 hours, the Birds work long hours all off season long.

I couldn't have said it any better Sticky. I thought Dale did a great job talking about Quinn and his relationship to the program. He had a tough time keeping it together at several times, but he did a much better job doing so than I ever could have done. Great honor for Andrew Roller that he won the first Quinn Stapleton Award. I thought that Dan Brossart, Bert Bathiany, Troy Kramer and Tom Cecil did a great job on the Season highlight DVD. Thanks again guys. And thanks again Seniors for all your contributions to our program. Well done.

Congrats to all the award winners! Others, please help me remember...but some that I do include:

Andrew Roller - The inaugaral Quinn Stapleton Award

Ben Schlosser - the "Red Dog" Dougherty award

Jordan Kremer - MVP

JV MVP - Blake Newman

Underclass MVP - Luke Stein

Special team MVP - Drew Bathiany & Trey Jurgens

Mr. HHS JV Football - Brady Dowling

JV Defense Award - Michael Laber

JV Offense Award - Clint Crawford

Frosh Offense POY - Travis Alford

Frosh Defense POY - Austin Collinsworth & "another" Roller

I believe that Wise, Kidwell, Egan, Roller got awards but after 6+ hours my attention spanned waned...help me out fellow attendees!!

...and the new award...Most "butchered analogy" goes to...drumroll, please...DALE MUELLER for his attempt at the dictionary/google/defense praise of Andrew Roller!!!

6 hours after all the time these young men have put in seems reasonable. Congratulations to all of them.

I agree.:thumb: A very short time to spend honoring these fine young men compared to the countless hours they have put in.

This also applies to the Coaches. As much as are boys are spending hours working hard so are the coaches plus a few more hours working on films and game plans. I have always felt the banquet was a very minimal sacrifice of time as a parent compared to what our sons and their coaches have given.

Thanks to the entire Highlands football team and coaches for the wonderful memories.

GO BIRDS

I think Luke Stine and Clay Cecil shared the Underclassmen MVP award. Ashton received the overall most valuable linemen award. I don't remember what award Wise and Kidwell received. Maybe Family Tradition can help out as I believe he was taking notes.

On the Frosh level, Alford I thought received the Frosh "Impact" Award; Donnie Brown got the most valuable offensive lineman award; Hunter Schlosser got the most valuable defensive lineman award; and Austin Collinsworth and Brandon Roller shared the Frosh overall MVP award.

And the parent who spoke at the end of the program gets my award for being merciful and cutting his 30 minute speech to 9 minutes:banana:

And I agree with you about Dale's award. I'm not sure he was trying to being funny, but he was.

Sounds like a very nice day and even though very long a great way to send off the Sr's and get all of Football Families together. Congratulations to all the Birds on a fine season.

LN., I think that you have the freshmen awards right. Ben Watson and Brian Beck also recieved awards for the freshmen.

I think that Clay Cecil and Drew Simons recieved the MVP for the underclassmen. Luke Stein and Ryan Ball recieved the same award (Mr.Highlands Football) I think? Spencer Head recieved the award for best Def. Back and wide reciever. Ben Koester won the best linebacker award.
