Its’s here. The yearly “catbird” fight that usually decides the class 2A first district playoff seeding. Murray is 2-0 in the district with a decisive win over Caldwell Co, and a come from behind win over Crittenden Co. Mayfield is also 2-0 with big wins over the Tigers and Rockets. 

This one will be played at Ty Holland in Murray so get there early if you want to sit down (don't get me started). Murray believes they are going to win this game, as they should, but what do you think? 

Murray and Crittenden Co played a close game with Murray coming from behind to win by ten. Mayfield put a running clock on Crittenden Co in the first half on the Rockets home field. IF Mayfield plays with the same intensity that they did last night, it will result in long faces for the Murray faithful. 

Mayfield wins by 3 touchdowns.

Mayfield is hitting their stride at the right time. With all of the starters that graduated last year it has taken them a little while to start clicking. Mayfield wins big 48-14. 

Murray/Mayfield game is hard to configure this year.  

What’s at stake: District Champion for the winner and home field advantage for the playoffs.  Loser will play at OCath in Owensboro in round 2.
 

Mayfield… is the favorite, no doubt! They are the defending champion until someone knocks them off. They have owned football in WKY for the last 25 odd years.

Mr. England (Soph) is developing into the next great RB1 in a history full of great Cardinal backs.  Their defense has been playing with more confidence as the season progresses. 
 

Murray comes in to this game on a seven game winning streak after dropping their opener vs Union City (TN).  This young Tiger team has consistently won but not dominated. Their lack of experience seems to show at times throughout the season and yet, they still manage to put up big numbers every week.  
 

Can Murray stop the home run play ability of the Cardinals?  

Can Mayfield stop J Jones and company?

On paper, this game is pretty close according to khsaa.  I’ll reserve my pick for later in the week.

Murray can throw the heck out of the ball, and Mayfield has struggled at times in the secondary, that's the only chance Murray has in this game. 

I'll be conservative and take Mayfield by 2 touchdowns, but most likely more. 

Going to be a great game for sure but Mayfield will win in the end. 

I have a feeling Mayfield will play conservative offensively in this game as they probably feel like if they limit mistakes it is their game to lose. I think Murray pulls out every trick in the bag as they know what’s at stake in this game. I’ll still take Mayfield 42-21.

I could see Murray jumping out to a early lead and keeping it close in first half. I believe Mayfield will eventually ware them out with the run game and pull out a 2 touchdown win.

What if Murray somehow wins, what does that do to the playoff structure.

Which team can beat Catholic? Or has a chance to beat Catholic? I just don't see a path for either team.

I don't think either of these teams can beat Cath this year. As of right now 2A is OC's to lose.

Don’t think that will be the issue.  Murray plays around 8 DL men on rotation. Looks like Murray will have their 2 DBs back from injury this week. Also, their MLB finally played last week after being injured in preseason.  Their new player should help in the trenches as well 6’8”” 380 I’m told.
