Everyone talking about the Pioneers defense struggling is funny. Have you even watch them play a game? They forced turnovers scored on 2 safeties and had a 93 yard pick 6. Numerous sacks. No one has talked about CovCath giving a bunch of points also.

SK 50 to 35 and SK 61 to 40

CovCath losses 14 to 30 and 22 to 32

SK has been bad historically on defense. Even you know that. Three plays in one game doesn’t change that.

They have doing that for years. That will not ever be a issue at CCH.

Apparently you didn't watch the game on Friday against Highlands. It absolutely is an issue for CCH. All of us in the top 5 rows of the bleachers could hear CCH's defensive coach screaming profanities at 120 WPM thru the glass in the press box all night because of how gassed the line was from going both ways. The CCH admins need to have hard talk with that coach because his language is a literal embarrassment to the school.

When you've given up 75 points in 2 games, your defense isn't exactly on fire. And I think everyone said that they expect Covington Catholic to give up a bunch of points as well. No one on this thread has been talking about how good their defense had been.  But the fact remains that Simon Kenton has given up more points in each of their games than Covington Catholic had given up in theirs.  One thing that jumps out to me is that the Pioneers gave up 40 points to a Mercer County team that only scored 14 against Bullitt East.  This one looks like it could go either way.

SK gave up points while they was cruising by a 2 td lead the entire game. It wasn't even close.

All though it's 75-62 on points allowed, let's look at the competition. Dixie Heights & Mercer Co compared to Ryle & Highlands.

Of the 62 points scored by opponents in 2 games, Cov Cath's defense has only allowed 51 of those points. Ryle had a touchdown and a safety on account of errant snaps by Cov Cath into the endzone and Highlands had a safety on account of an errant longsnap that rolled out the back of the endzone. That figures to 11 points for opponents that were scored without Cov Cath's defense on the field.

In two games Cov Cath's defense has 2 forced fumbles, 3 interceptions, and 1 sack compared to Simon Kenton's defense with 0 forced fumbles, 2 interceptions and 2 sacks.

Come on CWB, you know facts don’t stand in the way of people’s opinion! ?

Historically, Simon Kenton has averaged 5.36 points per game over the course of 25 games played against Cov Cath, while Cov Cath has averaged 40.8 points per game against Simon Kenton. The Pioneers have been shut out 11 times by the Colonels, and have only scored 2+ touchdowns four out of the twenty-five times they have played: 1979, 1994, 1998, 2023. The two times that Simon Kenton managed to score more than two touchdowns resulted in their only two wins over Cov Cath in 1979 and 1998.

I have a suspicion that we may see more than two touchdowns by Simon Kenton on Friday, but I'm still confident in predicting a Cov Cath win.

Simon Kenton gave up a whole lot of points while "cruising" with a 2 touchdown lead over 5A Dixie Heights and 3A Mercer County. Dixie beat Hughes (OH) which is no feat...for comparison, Calpreps projects Hughes as an 8 point underdog to Lloyd Memorial this year. So the pounding Hughes took from Dixie doesn't really say all that much about Dixie being that strong of a team, nor does it say much for Dixie being that strong of an opponent for Simon Kenton. And Mercer County is a 3A team...6A Simon Kenton certainly oughta be capable of holding a 2 touchdown lead over a 3A team, right? Or is that supposed to be some sort of an impressive accomplishment?

Simon Kenton has a decades-long tradition of hanging their hat on some token wins over smaller schools during the regular season and then usually making an early and abrupt exit come playoff time.

Excellent point CWB - about the defensive scores against Cov Cath's offense & special teams. I was siding with the Cov Cath defense even before that tidbit of information. BTW, wondering where you came up with 49? Splitting hairs but 51 seems to be the number allowed by Cov Cath's defense.

Good catch...lol, that was foggy-brained 5:45am math ?

I'm going to say Cov. Cath by 21+.  SK gave up 257 rushing yards to Mercer exposing a giant weakness in their defense.   I also say this because someone's head might explode immediately after reading it.

Cov Cath wins this one big.  SK has allowed a ton of points to two very mediocre teams.  Cov Cath has allowed fewer points against far superior competition.

We are going to have major issues on the DL when going up against an OL like we did last week. Just don’t have the depth of dudes this year and all 3 guys starting on the DL also start on offense.

We also need better play out of 22 at LB. His eye discipline and instincts just aren’t there now. He’s going to be an outstanding TE the next 2 years with his bulk, coordination and athleticism but, I don’t know if off ball LB is his best spot on defense. He’s probably better on the edge reading less and just being an athlete.

CovCaths defense gave up 167 yards rushing against Ryle and 290 yards against Highlands. Should be a good game Friday.
